LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — California’s COVID-19 situation is so bad, Air New Zealand will re-route its North American flights so their crews can overnight in Honolulu, rather than Los Angeles or San Francisco. Starting Monday, all of Air New Zealand’s cargo flight crews traveling to the United States will overnight in Honolulu. Flight crews on the airline’s passenger flights will be routed via Honolulu starting on Feb. 2. The airline says one set of crews will fly between Hawaii and California,… (losangeles.cbslocal.com) さらに...
A lot of airlines are doing the same thing. LAX to PVG has a crew swap in GUM so as not to lay over in China; ORD to PVG does the same in NRT. SFO to PVG changes crews in ICN.
UAL is doing those routings on the 777. I think the 787 is doing CTU cargo runs out of ICN as well. I meant to say LAX-HGK and ORD-HKG have the GUM and NRT stops doing cargo ops... SFO-ICN-PVG is a pax trip on the 777.
The AKL-HNL crew get a 3 day layover in HNL before doing the LAX return sectors. Then 3 days in HNL (in hotel isolation, so no fun) then back to AKL for 2 days iso.
Would one crew fly both legs, HNL to California and back? Can this be done within duty time limits? Or would they bring a second crew to fly the return to HNL? Presumably the crew or crews would wait on the plane in California while it is unloaded, serviced, reloaded.
I had the same question. Looks like about 5 hour legs so a minimum of 10 flying hours plus load and unload. I would estimate (no facts just estimate) it would be 2 crews of 2 pilots. Also interested if the crews fly all sectors or if they just do the HNL-LAX/SFO sectors
live in NorCal... have 6 friends in SoCal with the virus...out of control there.. very large diverse population with numerous views on the bug... airlines wise to stay out of town
There are more reasons than just the risk of CO-19 to not overnight in LA or San Fran like getting robbed if you're staying close to either of the Airports, happened to me in LA several years ago, same goes for Atlanta's airport
in my opinion the crews have done well to choose Honolulu as a layover base, first of all health in front of work and respect for those who work nearby, then for the crews' families and for the entire New Zealand population
I cannot fault ANZ for making that decision. It would be too easy to catch the virus at a local hotel unless the airline were able to get a whole hotel for themselves with no outside workers, but that would never happen.
Just like every city run by a certain political ideology. Funny how that works. Glad I left CA 20 years ago ... although moving back to MA wasn't the smartest decision I ever made ...
The virus is a terrible problem everywhere. It has become a tragic fact of life in California. Hospitals are full, Morgues are full, and I lay it all on our soon to be ex-governor. He has closed so much people gather in homes and create super spreader events. Even the roll out of the vaccines has been subjected to the governors norm of waste, fraud, and abuse.
ANZ is protecting their people and country, and doing so responsibly.
IT IS UNDERSTANDABALE..NEW ZEALND IS ONE OF THE FEW PLACES WHERE COVID OUTBREAKS HAVE BEEN QUICLY AND SERIOUSLY TAKEN CARE OF BY SHTUTDOWNS,ETCETERA..THEY HAVE HAD REMARKABLE SUCCESS DUE TO THAT FACT..
learn the difference between OFF and off and the difference between ON - on Until you know the difference better to stay quiet unless your writing confirm that you are a clown
There are quarantine requirements even for travel in California, but nobody does it. If you travel from Los Angeles County to neighboring Ventura County or Orange County, you’re supposed to quarantine for ten days. The fact that it is often impossible to tell when you are crossing from one county to another doesn’t help matters either.
It’s definitely far easier to enforce a quarantine on a island nation with few points of entry and robust border controls.
A good question. There's quite a lot of commerce by water ferry and by air. Food and essentials come from the UK and continental Europe. As far as I know, its impractical to have a meaningful quarantine of Ireland - it stops essential food
Irelands ports are much closer to multiple destinations in England, Scotland, and France, resulting in thousands of personal trips daily. Example : Dublin Ireland to Liverpool UK is only 150 miles distance, easy to move about. Dont overlook the fact that Dublin based Ryanair remains active at reduced capacity intra-EU
By comparison, Auckland, NZ is about 1300 miles distant from nearest country Australia. Yes,there are personal trips, but fewer and classified as non-essential during a NZ quarantine
Worried about CAPS LOCK, truly infantile and pathetic. Go figure why all NAMES in contracts are IN THE ALL CAPS The probability is that you do not have a clue The clue to the answer is found in the Cemetery. Do you even know the difference between Someone and Somebody or the difference between ON and on -- OFF and off. Presumably, your education level does not extend that high
Funny how constant rioting, arson, and looting is ok when perpetrated by people sharing the same ideology as the media, and the incoming administration ...
The "ideology of the media" ... The private owners of the RNC and the DNC are running both sides against each other. Meanwhile, the nation's treasury has been looted beyond compare.
