Could Congested World Airports Save The Airbus A380?

送信時刻:

The consensus on the Airbus A380 is in. It usually goes like this: Everyone wants to fly direct to their destination, a process the airline industry calls “point-to-point.” Nobody wants to fly to a “hub” (or worse, a “megahub”), run through the airport or cool their heels, then get on the second plane to their destination. The Middle East has the benefit of location for people who need to travel long distances. For them as a transit hub, the A380 makes sense. For the rest of the world, not so much. With the 787 flying higher, faster, and less per seat mile it is a favorite of passengers and investors. Not to mention being pressurized to a lower density altitude, who does not want to go non-stop to their destination?

Fortunately there is adequate parking in Mojave for all the unneeded Supers Airbus makes.

I think Airbus is talking it up in the hope of getting a last few A380 orders. This aircraft has no future and probably did not have one from inception. Passengers might love the plane but it is hard for an airline to make money with it. One would have thought Airbus might have learned a lesson or two from their other quad engined failure the A340. They have probably broken even or a bit better by now on the A380 thanks to Emirates but that plane had the potential to send them bankrupt.
