Are Airplane Pilots Too Dependent on Technology?

送信時刻:

I happened to catch this on TV the other night (ABC's 20/20). It was really hard for me to watch. I would love to hear more ATP rated pilots wage in on this. (abcnews.go.com) さらに...

Asiana was a result of training practices outside the us., where pilots are more/less trained to fly the autopilot more so than the airplane. Airmanship is alive and well here in the states, despite what some fake hair media whore has to say.

The ignorance is so upsetting. Do they want us to remove automation and hand fly in RVSM airspace for hours at a time? Have any of these reporters bothered to investigate the trend of safety statistics with the advent of technology? Did this reporter look over the curriculum of initial or recurrent training sessions for airline pilot? Should we eliminate automation and see how that works out? There hasn't been a fatal accident by a US passenger airline in over 5 years. Go to any Class C or larger airport in the US and watch traffic for just one day and tell me that isn't an amazing and impressive, and beautiful thing. It happens all day, every day, at every large city in the World. The media is paving the road with propaganda for a pilot-less future. I'll say it again; I sure hope I can get a career in before this profession is gone.

As a former Check Airman, Check pilot and designated examiner I have no doubt in my mind many of the skills many of us spent many years refining are diminishing rapidly! We all believe we are outstanding at these skills or we wouldn't go to work every day. Having said this when the automation fails (and it does) I fear many qualified and experienced crews do not have the skills to safely and competently complete the flight. I do believe Crews are not the major guilty party. Training is very expensive! Airlines will always choose automation over training for simple economic reasons. Aviation is safer than ever but i fear the art of flying is becoming ancient history. Automation with out a doubt has significantly improved safety but when it fails a competent crew is the last order of safety something I fear we are loosing Rapidly!

I appreciate what you are saying and I respect what you are saying because of your experience. I do not fly anything with auto- throttle or auto-land capabilities. That being said I work at a regional flying crjs with glass up front and an autopilot. As a matter of fact the sim that the reporter in the interview flies in the clip is a crj. My point is my self included I work with people everyday who take pride in there job an regularly hand fly the airplane. Sometimes the auto pilot gets mel'd an we have to hand fly the entire flight. Not to mention the times were George has a brain fart and can't keep up with turbulence or wind shear. The crews of these flights always seem to complete the flight without issue. There are guys who see flying as a job and aren't the smoothest on the yolk, but most of us care about smoothness an passenger comfort. It's frustrating when guys go on national tv telling who's ever watching that there sky's are filled with talentless ass clown button pushers. For one people don't want to hear that. Secondly that's one more argument to tighten regulation on an already overly regulated industry. There are still some of us who care

I apologize to Zachary Colescott. Your profile pic looks extremely similar to the airline pilot that frequently writes articles for FlightAware (can't find his name). I saw your pic and assumed you were him. If I could edit the original squawk info, I would. Again, sorry.
