Now even less emphasis on being able to perform a visual approach :)

Los Angeles has been dealing with their 'smog' for decades, and it was never this bad. Beijing better create policy to deal with their 'smog'. It will likely also be decades before they see any kind of marked improvement in their city as well.

Point being, if you're going to have smog, you might as well know how to land in it.

Apparently they are happy with the smog.

Well, the cost of cleaning it up is why their stuff sells so cheap among other things. I don't think though, that LA was this bad on it's worst day.

I'm thinking they need to just go to auto land cause it's gonna be zero zero soon. Lol

It's much worse, which is why nothing short of Herculean efforts will make a substantial change in the environmental conditions.

Maybe a massive build out of nuclear plant and outlawing of all combustion engine road vehicles could be the beginning of change. That would likely take decades, even with top-down autocratic rule.

But even after all that, they'd still have a massive environmental impact from all that industrial pollution alone.

So learning to fly in smog seems like the prudent thing to do. It will be their future for the foreseeable future.

I'm kinda like James, hit the auto land and let's go. The equipment is probably available on most of their planes. Train 'em up, learn 'em how to handle a seat pucker and a CAT3 or better. If that gets any worse over there they may have to get something for the ground too.

Smog forces 'blind landing' training on China's pilots

Smog in Beijing is now so bad and such a regular occurrence that the country's civil aviation authority will require the pilots of even small commercial airlines to be able to perform "blind landings."

The move is aimed at easing delays at Beijing Capital International Airport, which has had the worst flight delays out of 35 international airports.
