American Airlines to End Middle-Seat Blocking, Will Now Fill Flights to Capacity
American Airlines announced today that it plans to end its middle-seat blocking practices that were first instituted in the name of social distancing back in April, when passenger travel demand had hit its lowest point amid the pandemic in the U.S. Up until now, in a move adopted by most U.S. airlines, American had blocked about half of its economy-class middle seats, meaning that sales for each flight had been limited to around 85-percent capacity. Let's be real. American only cares about their bottom line and paying back their debt at whatever cost it takes.
I predict that this will not end well. Every day the numbers in the US get worse, and only two states (CT & RI) are seeing their week to week infection rate getting better, and American decides to try and pack their planes? Stupid move that will end up costing the carrier much more than they could ever make in the short run.
I do not think this is a good move at this time..understandably,aa is losing money,as are the other carriers,but the covid 19 virus is still spreading,and there are a lot of asymptomatic people around..if aa wants to fill every seat, then they MUST assure passengers they will continue with the thorough cleaning and disinfecting of every airplane,every seat,and still use masks and take temperatures..this is whats called in casinos, a "crap shoot"...
Living in the MCO area, this only sends wrong message it is down right unsafe, masks or not. I wont be flying on AA
