A number of companies are trying to be the Uber of private planes by letting fliers book a flight with the tap of an app. (www.usatoday.com) さらに...

This is a perversion of terminology. In no way are these "private planes" anymore than Uber is a "private limo". (Like you are the only one who has ever had a ride in that black car?) In this case they must mean "public charter" as opposed to "airline" travel. This would be more like a comparison between a Greyhound bus and Uber. Bus is less expensive, Uber is more convenient.

There is no way you can compare a private plane to greyhound. If you have ever missed a client dinner or meeting because of a missed connection, only you can determine the value of that. that is way past convenience

Point is... If anyone can access the aircraft and "charter" it then it's not "private" - it's "public". Private is the aircraft you can see from a distance but not touch - Because it's "private" and kept secured and not accessible to the public for any use.
Nonetheless, even a charter aircraft available to the public is far more convenient than traveling via the airlines and we fully support it.

terminology - if you are a business owner and taking a non public aircraft, it's private. That said, by the truest definition it is a charter

AC 120-12A Private Carriage versus Common Carriage should help clarify what's private versus public. of course the media doesn't know or care about accuracy in terminology or characterization.

I flew 135/90 for over 40 years. Like I said, it's terminology but when was the last time the media checked out things. Those Gulfstreams of CNN are airborne generally before the BREAKING NEWS ticker is off the screen

Thought you flew 7-5's?

I did; started out on 707 in 73, transitioned to 757 in 86. Flew that til I retired in 09. Went back on CRJ200 for about a year to train some newby's. Our corporation didn't want to rely on anybody else and had the money to go in style. Bad part about that is that you could have breakfast at home that morning and a late dinner in Hong Kong. We didn't have relief crews to fall back on. Actually was part 90 but we were chartered as 135 to give max flexibility. We took some folks along sometimes. I never asked questionsm just flew the plane.LOL

sounds good better then using a airline if you cannot make the connections on time
