It just gets better and better. When it finally does work, 180 - 220 rounds at 3,300 rounds per minute the load will last what 2 - 3 seconds? Great CAS replacement for the A-10.

Well one person said about enough for a good tactical burst and hope you don't miss. They are supposed to replace the A10 which is revered for it's cannon and CAS. And then somebody at the end says they can't envision the need for a gun anyway. Somebody, probably retired now, said that about the F4 too, but they forgot to tell the MIG's over North Vietnam.

As one observer noted, the problem with the A-10 and the Kiowa chopper is that they are both bought and paid for.

Back in the day, the USAF was separated from the Army in order to develop it's own tactics and all, that being one reason. They were given close air support as one of those missions. They either need to maintain the A10 and provide it, provide it with something besides the F35, or give that mission and the A10's to the Army and not have to fool with it anymore.

One of the Canadians on the RCN forum noted that after the two second burst exhausts the ammunition the pilot can always give them the finger on the way by.

Hunk a junk. Kill the program. Remodel all it's replacements and turn 'em loose. Development time is gonna outlast program time if we aren't careful.

The F-35 cannot operate without computers. Come to think of it, there may be some question about whether it can operate with them.

Things are even worse in the UK. The Royal Navy is building two carriers designed for STOVL F-35B's, which won't be delivered before 2020. The first carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth was launched in 2014 will begin sea trials next year and construction of the second, HMS Price of Wales, is about half complete. Until the F-35Bs are delivered, they will be the biggest and most expensive helicopter carriers ever!

How can we say BIGGEST BOODOGGLE AND SNAFU loud enough for somebody to listen. We just elected a ne Senator that is a vet of both Iraq and Afghanistan and I have Emailed him and our other is already on record as an opponent. Let's jack them all up and let them see just how far downhill the GOOD OLD BOYS network has taken them. There are some things in life that are past ridiculous and this is one of them.IMHO

You have a good point, and pursuing it could well drift off topic. With the electronic intelligence gathering capabilities of nation states, I don't think that countries that could potentially confront America have the slightest problem in gleaning this information.

I am concerned that the litany of incapabilities of the F-35 being developed as 'all things for all branches (and failing them all)' will be placing our armed forces personnel and our national security at an unacceptable risk. Classification of this information would merely keep it from the awareness of the taxpaying public who will be footing the bill, and burying their dead. Not that I have much expectation that the public will take note.

Unacceptable risk? That's a very distant priority. This is all about money, politics, and self-interest. What about unacceptable corruption and fraud? We seem to accept all this crap just fine, which is why it continues to roll on, and we will keep buying F-35s.
