Consolidated PBY Catalina - great design !
Beautiful! There's something to be said for an aircraft that's older than me, still flying and looking so good.
Wow, I was built in 1944 also and don't look half as good!
Same age as myself! LOL!
type designator = CAT
They are in a word gorgeous
float planes of that era are really something. the ones at naval museum in Pensacola truly flabbergast the mind at how such large beasts every got off the ground or water. But the PBY are really something to behold

My grandfather flew these in WWII up in the Aleutian Islands. Dutch Harbor.

Dad flew Black Cats off Sepik River, New Guinea, WW2.
Co-Pilot was Lou Conter--USS Arizona survivor, who just had a birthday party!

I saw one years ago at Victoria (CYYJ) that was being converted into a flying RV. Master bedroom where the observation turrets were, bar/lounge just behind the cockpit, and a total instrument upgrade. I was not into camping but maybe with that I could be convinced.
Check out the 'Catalina Preservation Society.'
Beautiful!
Saw this bird on O'ahu last year. Neat piece of history!

My dad flew patrol bombers off of North Island until the end of the war. Rolled them right out of the factory into San Diego Bay.
