Did I read somewhere the F-35 is the plane that is fazing out the A-10?

HERESY!!

I keep imaging a ~$100M F35 vs a don't-laugh-it's-paid-for A10 up against each other. by the time they're done, all the guis and other user friendly avionics on the modern aircraft will be crying for reinstalling their operating systems, etc. meanwhile the A10 would be down 1/2 wing, the other tail and an engine, but would be the only one still flying....

doing ground support against rifles, RPGs, manpads, etc (big handful of gravel?) with a $100M plane is insane. use the $10M one has that you know can take it.
