Douglas C-54 Skymaster (N500EJ)

So many memories... I was born and raised in Chicagoland, less than 10 miles from "Orchard Field" (Now O'Hare). I still have photos my dad took from the cockpit of a C-54 during the Korean War, he was just a passenger going on R&R to Japan, but he was a USAF FAC so I guess he talked his way up there. I became a C-130 loadmaster at the age of 18 in 1981 and in 1984 flew a mission into West Berlin carrying supplies for the embassy there at the time. The wall was still up, I went to Checkpoint Charlie and all that. It was jarring. I hope they keep this old bird flying, she's a beauty!

Flew into Goose Bay Labrador when I worked for North East Air Command. Long time ago.

@Keith Brown, I also grew up next to ORD, less than a mile away! And...I too was a C-130 Loadmaster (1977-1981) must have just missed you!

Hey John, Is this thing still flying? I wouldn't mind getting a ride on it if I'm in the vicinity next year.

November, 1957--Climbed aboard at Charleston AFB with a group of AIR FORCE PERSONNEL HEADED FOR A BASE CHANGE TO MOROCCO BY WAY OF THE AZORS. Does bring back a memory from long ago.

@2SHEDS Yes sir! I believe if you google the Berlin Airlift Historical society you can find out all the information that you need to know about this beautiful aircraft.

"Orchard Field" (Now O'Hare) Now you know why O'Hare has the designation of ORD. Same reason Ho Chi Minh City is SGN.
