Great shot! Is there a more distinctive fighter in the world?
What is this aircraft. It has wings rather like a German Junkers?
mavis ellison - this is a Vought F4U-1 Corsair. This WWII type was also license built by Goodyear (FG-1) and Brewster (F3A-1) during the war. It served primarily with the U.S. Marine Corp... and also with the Fleet Air Air of the Royal Navy and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
Besides fighter, also a torpedo launcher.
And flew with the Argentine Navy right up to 1968!
And I guess Mavis never saw any episodes of "Black Sheep Squadron."
Adam Makos wrote a book titled "Devouted" about Tom Hudner and Jesse Brown involving the Corsair in the Korean War. Great read.
The F4U otherwise known as “Ensign Eater” as it was a demanding aircraft to learn/fly.
Beauty at it's best. Corsairs are the best in the world. Pappy Boyington.
Great photo.
It's a wonderful and most famous fighter in the WWII.

I met Pappy Boyington at an airshow in Watsonville 1982 of 1983. What an honor.
