Hahahaha, my flight instructor raced this plane in a Cessna 210 from New Orleans on and Angel Flight after hurricane Katrina in 2003, he won!
This is actually a Super DC-3, which was also known as the U.S. Navy's R4D-8 and later re-designated C-117D. The FAA registry refers to this aircraft as a Douglas Super R4D-8.
