(Video) Controlling An Airport From 80 Miles Away

送信時刻:

London City Airport's getting a new control tower: but it's just going to be a large mast with 14 high-definition cameras on it. The actual tower will be 80 miles away, in the headquarters of NATS near Swanwick. It feels questionable: but is it? (www.youtube.com) さらに...

Hopefully any such system utilizes a dedicated independent line and not a shared one and especially not the internet, otherwise we might find some hacker in North Korea running the Tower.

The video mentions that this is the case, not that that guarantees security.

Understood. But some important systems are run over the internet. Our local water company has a pumping station which can be controlled over the internet and one of the (young) technicians was so proud of it that he demonstrated to me that he could discharge the compressed air intake clearance system which resulted in an "explosion" on the river surface using his laptop while sitting in his pickup outside the gate. I was just an anonymous passer-by who stopped for a chat. He said he could start and stop the diesels and open and close valves as well as monitor rpms/temperatures etc from the laptop. He actually typed in the password while I was looking !

You are right on track with that, wait until they hack the system and there is a mid air or ground one. Also what happens in low vis situations? Hmm will see how that works out.
Even when they have the cameras in the tower at the airport there are problems.
