The test is part of an assessment which could ultimately involve even steeper approaches of 3.5°. 170 ft at 8nm is not enough to make a difference to spectator sound I think.

There exist urban commercial airports with 6-degree glide slopes.

London City is steeper than 3 degrees but I do not know the exact value. Interested to know where the 6 degree approaches are. Would like to try it.

Take a look at TFFJ St Barts near Sint Maartin. Visual approach with a 300 ft hill on the approach to RW 10. Steep approach in a Twin Otter with a dramatic view from the front row center seat with cockpit doors open. One for the books!

The one that's close to me is CYTZ ILS 26, only a 4.5-degree slope. Still looking for the 6-degree one I thought I remembered.

Ah, yes, EGLC ILS DME RWY 10: 5.5-degrees.
