What happens when pinger dies from the MH370's black box ?

送信時刻:

They are inaudible to humans, but they would be sweet music to searchers hoping to find clues to the fate of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. They're the sounds believed to be emanating from the underwater locator beacons -- known as pingers -- that were attached to the jet's cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder. But the clock's ticking: Their batteries are not guaranteed to work for more than 30 days, and Friday marks day 28. And they may not even make it that long:… (www.cnn.com) さらに...

The authors of the article seem to have raised a finger against the Malaysian Airlines. Not bad but in context of Pingers, it seems like going too far.
By their own admission, for the best of pingers,
" ... Not only will the batteries powering the pinger die after about 30 to 45 days, but their sound can be obscured by weather, noise or silt. ... "
So the blame game may not be in good taste, if it's there.
And before all this , the FIRST and the FOREMOST question is of the target area and its vastness !
Deploying locators comes later. No ?
28th day ? So task of locating has already assumed gigantic proportions in the envelop of uncertainty.
Some of us hoped and prayed for a miracle earlier for survivors, today we may need it for the SAR(R for recovery, please!) teams to be able to locate the wreckage.

Quick and easy answer to that question... It makes an already impossible search even harder... They will be lucky to find the plane in 10 years.

Different media are aptly covering the news from many angles and in many ways .

" MH370 investigators work to confirm signals heard by Australian, Chinese vessels "

Another

" Oz: New pings sound like MH370 black box signals "

They all express some common concerns.

Whether the Chinese ships picked up the 'right' pings which were reportedly very weak ?
And, to confirm the source of the 'pings' before the batteries of the BBs die down !
IMHO, there is absolutely no need to dwell on these two.
Why ?
Any engineer or even physicist with indulgence in Sound having a vee bit of common sense knows and will recall that sound travel in waves in a medium . The signal strength(quality) though reduces over square of distance, but it depends heavily on the quality of medium also. Like in case of light ! If the medium is clean(!) the the signal will be 'clean' and so on. Therefore attaching too much qualitative concerns to 'pings' received by Chinese vessel will be irrelevant.
Now, coming to batteries weakening out or burning out, there is no need to panic.
As on date, we boast a lot about our competence in the word " Nano Technology". And today may be as good a day as any to test it ! Be it to pick up 'new but weak' signals AND/OR to 'enlarge' and analyse the signals received .
Battery strength being zero, notwithstanding !
Good luck to engineer-scientists involved .

Friends, allow me to augment/supplement my fore going comment by the following
" Electromagnetic absorption by water "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_absorption_by_water

Explaining about the effect of medium(water) on waves(electromagnetic)
Pleasant hunting with knowledge.

Those jets cost 100-200 Million and the batteries last a month. The buyers should insist on 1 year for the unforseen such as this tragedy.
