The USAF is just as guilty landing a C17 at a GA airport in Florida instead of the nearby base.

Maybe they had to burn off fuel. I was working a flight from RIC to LGA on an EMB145 and our gear wouldn't retract. We flew circles around Eastern VA for an hour before we could land. I was keeping my pax entertained by pointing out landmarks and some good fishing holes between the Chickahominy and James Rivers.

An idle aircraft costs more money than flying. We've ghosted and repo'd flights when I was a flight attendant. Just because we fly empty we still have to fly to the next destination to pick up pax. I used my old Air Force Air Specialty skills to fly direct KRIC to KGSO so we could go to the strip club behind our usual hotel. Normally the pairing started RIC-BWI-GSO overnight. We had no pax between RIC or at BWI. My crew scheduling was cool about flying direct. I got it okayed. Last minute a USAirways ops guy had an interoffice mail to BWI we had to fly out there. Damn, there went our plans. Even worse our plane broke for a bad beta light on landing at BWI. I was flying around in our J41's every now and then to keep up with that rating. Our whole 4 day pairing was screwed up after that. My wife even gave me permission to go to the strip club in GSO.

The guy making that decision was probably thinking I'll hook up with Boeing except for the MAX. I'll go with Airbus on the shorter range flights.

I actually prefer manual. That's how I learned to drive. Used to a manual transmission was an option. Back to flying though, the pilot did prefer the electronic suite the CRJ had as opposed to EMBRAER. I was just a flight attendant/arm chair pilot so I really had no dog in that fight. Fun times though.

I was talking with a CRJ pilot when I was working my EMB145. We were making fun of each other's planes. Imo though the ERJ is more comfortable. The CRJ700 was pretty cool though.
