Again with the snark. You actually don't disprove one word of what he says, you confirm it, and just come off as ... Well, I'll be kind and say, cranky. In fact,as you both state: The dc9-30 is not identical to an md-80. No need to list all your jobs. You can tuck your Wang back in your pants, we've all seen it. it would be great if you could elaborate on some of these comments. Such as, were there differences in the engines it caused them to be quieter in later generations, ETC

I think the writer was referring to what seemed to be, as a passenger, a consistently greater angle of climb off the runway under almost all conditions versus many/most airplanes (especially, the seemingly lumbering 738). While I don't have as many rides as you, I certainly have a few thousand passenger cycles and noticed the same thing about the md-80, and also seemingly the 757. Perhaps instead of the snark you could articulate their performance characteristics? I'd be interested.

CNN reported the plane had just completed routine maintenance in GA. Video sure looked like a stall.

The photos are shocking. This is not just uncontained, the fan assembly is gone and the cowling completely blown out. Never seen anything quite like this. I predict it becomes a more significant item of study than the typical engine failure.

I don't think yikes! is really the right vibe here. It was a lot more serious than that. The pilots dropped this bird about 20,000 ft in 5 minutes, and they were on the ground in 15.

If you think I would voluntarily buy a coach ticket on a narrow body from Paris to New York with a 9-hour block time you should have your head examined.

Don't agree. The airlines best customers are definitely aware of the equipment. That's why a two aisle future solution, or cheap 767 today, with price stability and oil seemingly well-established, is on the table.

The 21LR sounds like an awful experience from US to Europe. I suspect (and hope) some Airlines will buy cheap 767s in the interim waiting for Boeing's NMA.... I for one will run, not walk towards airlines that offer two aisle configurations. 767 perhaps the best ever. The only people that ever liked the 757 were pilots and bean counters, it was and is crummy for SLF.

Agenda or not, the main point is that corporate Jets probably underpay tax into the system. I think I can agree with that. Now as far as all the claptrap about the ATC being the greatest in the world the FAA being a top-flight organization etc, that is a complete crock. The FAA has wasted billions of dollars, had every opportunity to upgrade our systems but botched each and every one; and is the primary source of almost every delay traveling in the air today. The FAA has proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they cannot execute this job appropriately, efficiently, or cost-effectively. They've had decades and failed miserably. I am firmly in the Mike Boyd camp on this. I'm absolutely in favor of competition between private firms to bring the system out of the paper slip age - which should have been done at least 20 years ago by an even semi-competent FAA. The only thing I can say in their defense is it there been several idiot administrators and politicians from both parties
