Aviation Maintenance shared a picture of the top fuselage of an American Airlines Dreamliner. The Boeing 787 experienced extensive damage to its composite fuselage crown when it was hit by lightning during flight. Summer is the season for thunderstorms, and sometimes lightning can strike an aircraft that is flying. However, a lightning strike on an aircraft is not dangerous, as aircraft are designed to withstand lightning strikes. (twitter.com) More...Cirrus Caps deployment and recovery video in Quebec

The Air France-KLM Group CEO Ben Smith thinks that Airbus should consider the production of A220-500, an elongated variant of the current A220-300. Last week, Air France-KLM Group signed an order commitment for 60 Airbus A220-300 jets. But, it seems that the Franco-Dutch Group's interest in the Airbus's A220s is not limited with the -300 variant. The Group CEO Ben Smith calls for an extended version of the aircraft. Allegiant Airlines has settled out of court with a pilot it fired after ordering an emergency landing and evacuation because of a burning smell in his MD 80 jetliner, according to the office of Nevada judge Joe Hardy, Jr. who was handling the case. The pilot, Captain Jason Kinzer, alleged in his lawsuit that the airline was putting “profits over safety.” The settlement avoids a trial scheduled to begin today in Las Vegas that threatened to yield yet another black eye for the budget carrier with… (lawandcrime.com) More...Emirates quietly drops 787 from future fleet with Airbus order

Submitted
The Air Force is facing a gap in aerial refueling capacity through the mid-2020s as it retires aged KC-10 and KC-135 tankers faster than they can be replaced by the troubled KC-46A Pegasus or a follow-on tanker aimed at serving as a bridge between existing and next-generation capabilities. In 2021, the Air Force’s 442 operational KC-10s and KC-135s and 50 partially operational KC-46As were “likely capable” of delivering approximately 33 million pounds of fuel at 2,500 nautical miles, said… (www.nationaldefensemagazine.org) More...Boeing discovers more software issues in the Max
