1) Does Boeing have a point? I.e. how much of a concern / risk it is actually for additional / location of the fuel tanks? 2) Could Boeing do, more or less, the same design to the 737 (call it the 737FT – fatty tank – or to avoid confusion with a freighter, the 737ET i.e. Extra Terrestrial, it could be out of this world… ) and would they do it? 3)Is Boeing just trying to be a PITA?

I personally do not want to fly an aircraft worked on by a person (or people) who are criminally known for fraudulent activities; my life depends upon it. The criminal activity taints the entire company and what the company does to address it either builds or destroys trust. I do note from article -- In United’s favor was the fact that it cooperated with the investigation, removed the principal manager who led the criminal scheme and hired outside counsel and advisers to establish a compliance program with regular employee training. – What makes me worried what about all the other people (For 3 years I doubt the “principal manager” could be the only person to scan all the codes and file the paper work as such) involved; United (or any airline / company aviation related) needs to ID ALL the people known whom may have been involved. NOT saying anyone of those people were involved (thinking more management type folks especially here, they tend to take new roles in the company), but unf

Will be interesting if the China numbers can hold / break the otherwise downward trend (30% spike is weird, but so had been the drop, but it seemed more trend like in my view), the chat showing US traffic on the lower side of ~18k vs. higher side (just trying to eyeball the end of 2020 to so far in 2021) makes me wonder if the seemingly slightly fewer flights may be due to airline not blocking seats as much; i.e. higher seat utilization. Europe graph shape seems almost identical to prior years, for the most part, just at different total levels; overall though seem even a bit more messy there this year vs. last…. Hope this could be a monthly type of data sharing.

Wonder if they would be willing to sell the airport to private entity; i.e. maybe a few airlines would pool some resources (ok, ok, not as if any have any right now....) they could buy the place and operate it to their own desires.

While there might be another reason(s), this implies financially United is still earning more off passenger flights somehow. I also make note that article indicates cargo demand (air type) is greater now vs. year ago and there are also fewer providers (capacity) than a year ago, and if supply-demand hold, rates should be greater. Wonder how FexEx & UPS make money with their air freight? Anyone else got ideas on the business sense here?

I think a better example of what you may be trying to express would be like a GEO vs. Toyota or the Toyota Yaris (current version) vs. a Mazda 2 for the car example. Most people may never know the only difference between the vehicle was what dealer and, literally, what logo / hood ornament was glued on.

Marketing and money.... Most folks here realize and understand these differences, but John / Jane / Pat Q. Public(if you remember or know or SNL; makes me a bit sick for reasons not shared here...) know Boeing or Airbus and United or Delta or SW or AA, but not much more than I buy a ticket, go though security (TSA? what is that?), sit in a seat, ignore the greeerrr noise, look out the window from the window seat and go we are almost there, and then think, ok, how can I get my overhead and up the aisle before the people in the middle and aisle seats. It is pretty darn lucky to even hear on the news anything like the so and so makes this engine and it use on all these other planes as well. I.e. an entity might be able to make a bunch of money by getting people to believe go on such a plane or such an airline I might die, but if I fly plane B or airline X I am safe. Why I wonder about the perception; took me a bit of time to learn this better vs. just looking at the specs of how things act

Also glad it did not hit the (turbine) fan. :-)

Noting the age / these are the older / oldest units, do you think P&W / FAA / Boeing may use the data to extrapolate and maybe re-rate newer (as well as these engines) for expected life / Time Between Major Overhaul for the engines? If so, it starts to make me wonder about operating costs, etc..., and how the airlines pick an engine for their fleets. I am guessing given the directive to ground and inspect, there maybe a significant change coming and wonder if this would also apply to the other engine manufactures and engine designs; clarification, hollow vs. sold blade designs.
