Boeing QC has suffered a lot recently. Perhaps an upper management shake up is in order? These problems just can't be allowed to continue. Too much at stake.
After reading this article and the comments below, I wholeheartedly agree that there were numerous "fault" producing instances involved here. Boeing primarily, but pilot training and skill sets definitely contributed to the issue. The FAA certainly shares some of the blame as well. I am glad to hear from veteran pilots on this issue. As a result of all this reportage and, sadly, huge loss of life, these and future Boeing planes will be even safer and I would not hesitate to fly a Boeing 737 800MAX in the future.
Time really flies (if you'll pardon the pun). It wasn't so long ago they Boeing were struggling to get the aircraft flyable. With all the delays and other problems that were experienced, it is gratifying to see that Boeing's persistence paid off and the world has a truly remarkable aircraft.
I agree with Canuck44. Why is their race important? Are they qualified? That's all we need to know. Actually, this shouldn't even be of interest. We should be able to feel comfortable with airlines' choices for flight deck crews without regard for race, gender, etc. Are we waiting for the first flight deck crew piloted by trannies? In this day and age, more than ever, people can achieve their goals if they will apply themselves. We just got through with the first president of color. That should be an incentive for everyone to work to reach their goals.
Sad to see this. This was THE aircraft for decades. Watched BA's 747 land in PHX recently and realized this won't be happening much longer. Hope the 800 can carry the torch well into the future. These are beautiful aircraft.
