With good training and guidance, let the front line agents handle events with the knowledge that management will back them up. Read the Tom Davis story of how he started an airline - Piedmont - and began a culture of training and trusting the front line employees. Then look at what the employees gave him - one of the best run airlines in history with both on-time and customer service excellence. Hire good people, train them well, trust them, back them up - and let them handle the situations. It's a good working environment for everyone - especially the customer.

CLT has a dedicated parking area (with picnic tables) overlooking one of the runways. Also CRW just opened an indoor viewing area with seats overlooking the runways.

My disappointment with main stream media started years ago when I was an Aviation Student at Florida Institute of Tech. 60 Minutes was doing a segment that involved an airplane accident and defined a stall as basically an engine out situation. Since then I've been consistently amazed at how little "investigation" and research goes in to a news article. With the 24 hour news cycle and instant coverage of stories today, there is no time for proper research. It's all about who get the story first - we'll worry about the details and how correct the reporting is later. Much like our government, let's pass a bill now and read it later to see what it contains. I usually go to a technical publication if I want to read something about aviation that I want to believe.

Closest I've come to experiencing anything like these photos was on Turkish Airlines two years ago. Chef on board (with the white chimney hat and bandanna around his neck) that comes to every seat to describe the meal and take your order. All kinds of spirits, wine, beer, aperitifs, before/during/after the meal, cheese plates, fresh fruits, etc. The even have a little LED flicker candle on the tray to give you the dining by candlelight feeling. VERY civilized and as close as I'll ever come to the photos from the 50's and 60's. Food was outstanding and the service Excellent.

I wonder if the new contract provides for a "safe zone" in the cabin when things aren't going their way, a guest looks at them wrong or, God forbid, asks them for something.

Ditto. We have choices, exercise them.
