Do ignore this. I posted to the wrong window. Quite embarrassing. Wish FA would let you delete/ edit responses.

I believe the GFC700 with hypoxia aware/emergency descent (the display inquires if you are alert after a period of inactivity if no response should perform emergency descent to a safe altitude automatically) standard equipment on the SR22T after 2013 model years. Whatever happend to make him unresponsive (hypoxia, sudden medical event) shouldn't the automated emergecy descent mode been activated? The flightaware info for N325JK shows the aircraft held 19000ft perfectly even as airspeed appears to have degraded over time so I am making the admittedly large assumption that the autopilot was activated on the flight. Is there a techinical reason the autopilot logic may not perform the descent?

Or you could just google the name of the operator from the aircraft info block and find that COWLIN AVIATION LLC is a flight training service and have a post of their flight track on their Facebook page that says they did it for training. "Did you catch our awesome #Texas #longhorn training flight yesterday?" https://www.facebook.com/CowlinAviation/

Yes it was safe, it was hours before the most tracked and reported on weather system in the world arrived moving at a whopping 15 mph. They face worse time pressure from their own dispatch departments. At the end of the day they helped evacuate dozens of people who were in real danger.

Imagine how much more terrifying a hurricane would be if an airliner couldn't outrun it.

Probably a combination of them not being beholden to a single point supplier, maximizing route efficiencies, and in the unlikely event there is an issue with FAA demanding emergency AD's on a specific model their whole fleet isn't grounded.

With paperwork, coordinating run-up, and triming the engine, etc. It is not unreasonable for the plane to be down 24-36 hours. I frequently joke that I have 2 hours of paperwork for every hour of maintenance I perform.

A near-miss would be a hit. A near miss, is a miss that was nearly a hit.
