The airline industry will release a COVID-19 passport for your iPhone next month

送信時刻:

After successfully trialing it on an international flight between Singapore and London earlier this month, the IATA says it will release its Travel Pass app in mid-April. The software allows airline travelers to store verified COVID-19 test results and vaccination certificates on their phones. The trade association told Reuters it expects to make the app available to download on iPhone around April 15th, with an Android version to follow later. (www.engadget.com) さらに...

I thought this was a venue for open topical discussion; I don't see the benefit of irrelevant personal insults and attacks by a few "members" on this site.

The design intent of free speech in America was to allow civil discussion of differing opinions not restricted by consensus, oversight permission, threat, and/or intimidation by others. Sadly, it seems civility is a dying, and/or already deceased, virtue in America.
artpauly
Abusive language doesn't bother me. I only shows the lack of intelligence of the speaker. It renders their comments irrelevant and useless.

Yes, but only independent free-thinkers see it as you do.

In my opinion, this is a tempest in a teapot. I have spent the last 35+ years flying millions of miles all over the world to serve the oil & gas industry. I always had my WHO “Yellow Book” with me listing all immunizations necessary for entry into a variety of countries. Without this yellow book, entry was not happening unless you wanted to roll up your sleeve in a very risky situation. I don’t see Covid vaccination being fundamentally different from Yellow Fever vaccination. Some may say this was paper & not a database but your information was certainly stored & later, digitized at every entry, I would really like to have this as an app or cloud based in case the yellow book is ever lost (again). There is a very simple solution for those who object to this requirement by airlines & other countrie. Don’t go there.
bruceahz
No, "free speech" is a prohibition on THE GOVERNMENT to prevent suppression of ideas the government doesn't like. Nothing to do with civility at all and in fact, uncivil discourse might be the most important protection of the Constitution. Try using abusive language about the leaders of a repressive regime and see what happens.

My point being, raising your voice with vitriol and slander does not advance an argument, or constructively promote a level-of-awareness to a differing view/opinion.

When the debate is lost slander becomes the tool of the losers.

Hi folks, I'm an attorney practicing aviation law. I know the personalities on Fox News are making lots of arguments about HIPAA and the Constitution in connection with this development, but their arguments really need to be put into the context of what federal law actually is. You have a right under HIPAA (which is not the Constitution) to keep your medical history private. You do not have a right, under the Constitution or any federal or state law, to board an airplane. You board an airliner pursuant to a contract that you create with the private company that runs the airline, on their chosen terms (just like if you happen to be gay, and want to buy a wedding cake celebrating your marriage to another person of the same sex, you might have difficulty getting that done with certain private bakeries that are not as open minded as others). If a private airline, or a group representing multiple private airlines (IATA) wants to create a requirement that you show proof of vaccination prior to boarding, that is its/their right as private citizens running a private company. If you strenuously object to that on HIPAA grounds, you have every right to stay home, or to drive yourself to your destination in your own vehicle. Nothing in the Constitution (which I urge everyone to read--it's really not that long) is implicated by a private airline asking you to show proof of vaccination. Nor is HIPAA violated, because nobody is forcing you to divulge your medical history--it's a voluntary and very limited waiver if you want to do business with the airline. Remember: you can always drive, take a boat, or stay home and watch hours upon hours of political rants on your favorite news station. (And by the way, this isn't coming from some airline industry attorney--I sue the airlines every day on behalf of clients who have legitimate legal claims).
Terryjp
Terryjp 6
Then the airlines need to stop taking our tax dollars to stay afloat. After all, it’s a private company... Not all tax payers want this experimental vaccine . If the vaccine is so effective, you can’t catch the virus from the dirty masses .
TorstenHoff
They bet tax dollars to keep tens of thousands of people employed and a critical service going. Do you think we’d be better off if the airlines folded?
tongo
Government bailouts don't save the businesses that they bailout. Without a bailout, the outcomes is very predictable. The business goes bankrupt, the investors likely lose everything, union contracts are nullified, the assets are sold and put to use by a new company who steps in to fill the void.

So, the airlines wouldn't go away. Would 'we' be better off? It depends on who 'we' is. If 'we' are the investors in the airline, then no, we would not be better off without taxpayers money flowing into our pockets to keep us from going bankrupt. If 'we' are the unions, then perhaps not, 'we' would not be better off as we would have to negotiate our benefits starting over with a new company.

But, the airlines would not go away. If this was your concern.
kevpnw
Can you share the part of the article where airlines are requiring a COVID vaccination?
aurodoc
aurodoc 4
I don't think it is the airlines decision to require proof of vaccination, but the countries they fly to. Most of what is talked about is international travel not domestic in my opinion. My wife is going to Germany in 2 weeks and the country (Germany) is requiring a negative Covid test prior to entry so United is requiring passengers to have proof of the test prior to boarding. I would hope a vaccination card would stop the need for testing before boarding.
azuresc
So with your logic, hospitals should stop taking tax dollars to stay afloat, as almost all of them are private now.
MelMalinowski
Thanks, John. Well-argued. No shirt, no shoes, no vaccination, no service sounds like a free business in operation, the American way.

When the government has as much oversight, regulation, and involvement in day2day ops of airlines as they do (and should) - then the line between the company and the government become extremely blurred - and both passengers and the airlines have laws, rights and resources afforded to them through that very oversight & integration. Long and short of it - as a federally managed entity, and by all accounts falling under what could be identified as "common carrier" designation (such as in the telecomm realm) - The protections afforded by HIPAA should therefor extend to cover "customers" of the airline, just as they do any telecomm customers.

The airlines are simply operators of a service that is otherwise managed by the Fed. Airlines cannot operate without that management, regulation, oversight and integration.
johndmckayatty
That's pretty much an argument to be made to your representatives in Congress. It does not accurately state what is currently the law.
tongo
Your example about the baker did not have to do with 'public accommodation', did it? I thought the ruling was in regard that he could not be forced to create a particular piece of art that he, as an artist, did not want to create.

Airlines are public accommodations, are they not? Which would make your analogy moot.

What state you you practice in?
johndmckayatty
John McKay 16
Dan, I am licensed to practice in several U.S. states, as well as Ontario and England and Wales. I have also taught Aviation Law (and the Constitution) for many years. It doesn't do much good to get deep into the facts of the Colorado bakery case, I was simply making the point that private companies can set their own rules for doing business. Yes, airlines are regulated, but those regulations are primarily for safety. Allowing unvaccinated people on board airliners during a pandemic doesn't seem very consistent with safety, does it? And the fact that they receive tax dollars under certain circumstances doesn't make their airliners public property any more than it makes Bank of America's various lobbies into places where you and your family can have a picnic. So the "public accommodations" argument really isn't a winner.
tongo
1. I am happy that you are licensed.
2. If the baker analogy was not a good one, why bring it up in the first place? It just confuses the discussion.
3. If allowing unvaccinated people on board airliners doesn't seem very consistent with safety, then where do you draw the line? Influenza killed hundreds of thousands before COVID, and I am sure that many of those caught it while travelling, yet?... Hundreds of thousands of people have died as a direct result of crashes, yet?... Getting up in the morning seems to cause the greatest number of heart attacks, yet?...

I advocate for people to be allowed to make their own decisions in matters such as these. Others seem to believe they have the right to be tyrants over others.
KennyFlys
Ken Lane 1
The tyrants are those who act in fear or an irrational belief and almost always without looking all the facts.

1) The Danish study proved masks are statistically irrelevant in the real world. Is there a cleaner environment than an airline cabin at altitude with better circulation?

2) Distance is your only friend. Yet, masks are supposed to make you safer in a human mailing tube where there are as many as eighteen people within six feet?

3) Airlines, particularly legacy carriers, are among some of the worst run businesses in history, especially in the United States. Do they think this is going to help their case by pushing this kind of stupidity? These are the same idiots who think you can reason with a toddler or autistic child, forcing them to wear a mask.

There are a lot of people who live for drama. This thread is just a microcosm of what whipped up hysteria and false and incomplete information does to certain sectors.

The US has close to 600k dead from COVID-19, yet some (even on this thread) make statements that those causes of death have been falsified. Nonsense. That would be suggesting that thousands of medical professionals and medical examiners (which are part of law enforcement) have all conspired together to falsify death certificates for some unknown purpose. Right.
sledogpilot
I’m not necessarily anti-vaccine but I know from first hand experience that cause of death has been falsified or mislabeled. One family friend of my wife’s had a brain tumor, was at a point where she was given just a few days to live and had the cause of death listed as Covid because she tested positive but wasn’t necessarily Covid symptomatic.
Have heard many other anecdotes
jmadunleavy
John D 1
My first wife died of cancer. Her cause of death was listed as sepsis. Underlying condition as stated on the death certificate was they actual illness.

I expect your friend's death certificate looked similar to my first wife's. The medical examiner or physician list the immediate cause of death as COVID, helped along by brain cancer.
tongo
I believe that your description of what reasonably happens is a very good reason to doubt that COVID has actually killed all the people it has been claimed to kill.

"How did he die?"

"Gravity."

"What do you mean, gravity killed him?"

"He was despondent and jumped from the 30th floor. Gravity killed him."

Just curious what it takes to engage your brain.
tongo
How many people have died from all causes possible? Do you advocate tyranny in an attempt to prevent ALL deaths from every cause? If not, why do you single out COVID? Because not enough people have died?

tomasz2013
If you break your arm, go to the hospital, get an infection and die, the broken arm didnt kill you. The infection either brought on by the broken arm or caught in the hospital is what kills you. The broken arm was a pre existing condition.
tongo
And if you have a terminal illness, such that a DNR order is in effect before you catch COVID, and then you catch COVID, and treatment is limited because of the DNR order, which is because of the terminal condition, then did you really die of COVID? Especially since without your pre-existing terminal condition you would have, like the majority of others, have survived it?

This is much closer to what happened in large numbers than your broken arm example. But, I'm sure you'll use better examples next time.
tomasz2013
If you are ESTIMATED to die 2 weeks from now but die in a week then yes COVID killed you.
Think of it this way if you have a heart attack, then go to surgery and the doc accidentally tears your heart chamber, the heart attack didnt kill you the doc did.
tongo
I believe that your analogy is flawed. If you're heart attack was such that your probability of living was just 1% only if the doctor performed a risky treatment, which then failed due to the known damage that would occur inherent with the procedure, what killed you? The heart attack, or the risky treatment?

The reason that this discussion is important is because not all risks are equal. Many, many people, assume that all risk of death is equally bad and must be avoided all costs. If the world ran this way, we would have paralyzed ourselves long ago.

Another way of looking at it. Would you consider your hypothetical death caused by some malady at the age of 99 years old the same tragedy as your death caused by a different malady at the age of 39? I would, and I believe that is reasonable.

Therefore, the tragedy of a thing that kills me one week before I was going to die from something unavoidable anyway is nowhere near equal to the tragedy of something that killed me when I was nowhere near dying. And we should not treat it as the same tragedy, or we are being ridiculous.
tongo
Please, allow me to correct my typo. "Would you consider your hypothetical death caused by some malady at the age of 99 years old the same tragedy as your death caused by a different malady at the age of 39? I would NOT, and I believe that is reasonable."

They don’t want you to catch yellow fever when you land. I have taken flights transiting in Bangui going to Brazzaville. Passengers leaving the aircraft in Bangui needed the vaccination but not those going to Brazzaville. No mask in the plane, no social distanciation. Don’t mix anything with everything.

A citizen concerned with his country's safe and just electoral system will love to have a form of stopping electoral tampering and illegal aliens from voting. That form is a valid voting ID! pwahle2012
I just checked visa requirement for Thailand. Being vaccinated or not does not make any difference, Still need the PCR tes, the 2 weeks quarantaine with PCR tests every 5 days before being freed from internment. On top of that you need a Covid insurance of $100,000 even if you are vaccinated or not. Now with 99.6% recovery rate in case of infection, my chance of recovery is much better than the hypothetical short, mid and long term consequences of the vaccine.

The article says test information can also be stored, so assuming that it’s adopted a negative test would probably be accepted. Possibly other medical information verifying one of the rare conditions that make vaccination impossible.

You would simply be required to show a negative test before boarding and, in most countries quarantine for a given amount of days. As everyone else who chooses not to submit their vaccination information. So there are other options for people unable or unwilling to take the vaccine. It can be inconvenient and cost more to travel. But as someone with underlying health issues that often reduce my ability to walk any distance, I have to arrive early and wait for assistance, almost always paying for that assistance at both ends of my air travel. So having underlying health issues comes with extra costs and restrictions when traveling, welcome to the real world.

I asked and was told that the results went to FL without my name....uh, they had my cell phone to contact me - do they think we're stupid?
MelMalinowski
This is little different than requiring the old yellow vaccination book to prove you're properly prepared for yellow fever, etc.. It's just more secure (paper vaccination cards are so easily forged, they're already doing it). I don't want scoff-law anti-vaxxers sitting next to me on a 12 hour flight without a mask. Better this than the alternatives. If you don't like it, take a train, boat, or maybe dogsled. If you think you're not already being tracked by Google and others, you're out of touch. Get over it.
wardoggkc130fe
You seemed to have lived this long "sitting next to anti-vaxxers" up to this point. Congratulations.
srobak
srobak 0
you didn't have to carry the yellow vaccination book around with you everywhere that you went - and you also weren't forced to get those vaccinations either. I still have my yellow book and it's got handwritten signatures in it buy doctors from eons ago - none of which could be tracked or verified today. I'm not at all an anti vaxxer, but the entire premise of this disease not to mention the supposed vaccination that still requires you to wear a mask and be socially distant does not compute. vaccinations have never been required nor forced upon us in order to travel in the past - even for diseases that are far far deadlier than this one supposedly is. But for this one we are? No.

This has absolutely nothing to do with being tracked it has everything to do with being controlled. If you can't tell the difference - then you have already fallen victim to it. Get over it.
TheDogeof88
Your knowledge of history seems to be virtually absent. All sorts of health requirements have been present for travel in the past. Educate yourself and stop spouting nonsenses.
KineticRider
srobak has no knowledge just epic ignorance exacerbated by Fox disinformation.
pwahle2012
Oh yes, when and which health requirements have been present for travel in the past? Never an airline has been enforcing any rules to allow you to board an aircraft. The yellow fever card was mandatory for entering a country where the fever was endemic. Of course in case entry was denied on arrival because you were not vaccinated, the airline had to repatriate the traveler at its own expenses, so they decided to ask for the vaccination card when boarding and made sure you were not denied entry into the destination country. But even without the card people did travel and enter the country at their own risk.

You have that completely backwards. It’s the Democrats who add all of the unneeded regulations and who are trying to control your children’s learning, what you read and see and almost every facet of your life they try to control. WHOA! Comments are off the charts. Quite entertaining. A self promoting attorney who sues airlines daily, people on the left and right hating each other and demanding they stay home because one has more “rights” than the other and a minor amount of civil and reasonable comments. This could be a housewives of FlightAware reality show.

Anyway - someone halfway reasonable please explain why vaccines for Covid19 would be mandatory when other vaccines for much more deadly diseases are not. Thanks.

johndmckayatty
Hi, “self promoting attorney” here. Because there’s a pandemic.
sharadiva
Hi self promoting attorney :-) Yes there is a pandemic. So are you implying that once the pandemic is over, the need for proof of Covid19 vaccines will go away also?
johndmckayatty
I guess that remains to be seen, doesn't it? I don't run the airlines, and you won't get much argument from me that sometimes they do things that are really annoying. But as a few astute folks have noted here on today's overblown debate about everything that annoys them, it wouldn't be very profitable for the airlines to make people do something they don't want to do if there is no reason behind it. As for whether there is currently a reason for it, I think we should all listen to the bona fide epidemiologists on that subject rather than TV personalities who happen to be radiologists. Or TV personalities who don't have any medical degrees at all. I heard your exact argument on Sean Hannity last night (or was it Tucker Carlson? They kind of run together...) and it didn't seem to have any sound science behind it. There is currently a coronavirus pandemic raging through just about every country on earth that has killed nearly 3 million people, 546,818 of them here in the U.S. That's a good reason to be cautious in my book. Epidemiologists seem to agree. We have vaccines now, but nobody knows how long they last or how strong they are against the mutations that are cropping up. Another good reason to be cautious rather than reckless. We also don't know for certain whether vaccinated people are still capable of being vectors for the spread of the virus. We have some developing ideas, but science dictates to proceed cautiously. When I was a kid, astronauts returning from space had to be placed in quarantine because of what we didn't know about what they might be carrying back from space. Careful science eventually determined that we don't need to, and it isn't done anymore. From the beginning of this pandemic, scientists with lots more experience with infectious disease than Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson combined have urged patience and adherence to things like masks and social distancing until we can eradicate this virus. A little patience and cooperation is not a huge ask, and I can guarantee you that it will not cause the downfall of America. And for those who believe the Constitution says you have the right to do whatever you damn well please, I urge you to actually sit down and read it. It doesn't; that would be anarchy. Instead, it sets up a federal government atop a system of several individual state governments. Government, by its very nature, requires some cooperation with our fellow participants in the government. We aren't sheep, we're citizens. Where is Rodney King when we need him most?
pwahle2012
It's strange how there is so much debate about death, compassion, control, lack of freedom because of a virus with a 99.6% recovery. We have shut down the world economy, closed the schools, people lost their jobs, their businesses and their homes, mental illness and suicides are at their peaks meanwhile we dropped 2 atomic bombs in 1945 killing as many people as Covid (if it can be proven that the pandemic killed that many people, WWII killed 100 times more people as Covid, the Armenian genocide by the Turks killed 1.5 million people, we dropped napalm on Vietnam and killed 885,000 people, slaughter a few more at My Lai and we talk about care and compassion, about obliging people to wear masks and keep their distances, we tell people they are egoistic because they want to live a normal life without segregation and being obliged to get a stupid failed vaccine while millions of people have recovered and have produced enough antibodies for the rest of their lives. How much hypocrisy are we going to endure?
jmadunleavy
John D 1
Amen! Well stated
tongo
What defines a pandemic? Is it black or white, or shades of gray? Is there an exact number of dead?
Who defines what a pandemic is? Is it debatable? Why, if it's a pandemic, is it important to save lives, but if it is not defined as a pandemic, it's OK to go about life as 'normal', knowing that lives will be lost by living our lives in what we consider a normal way? Is it OK to not care about lives by living normally as long as someone hasn't used the pandemic word? I am not asking these questions in jest. These are very pertinent questions that everyone should be asking, if they are thinking.
johndmckayatty
Honestly, I think you can Google the definition of a pandemic and how one is determined to exist. But “deadly epidemic” and “common sense when lives are at risk” work just as well.
tongo
I didn't think you had an answer. Thanks for confirming.

If simply using the term as a justification for your position (in your post above), it would seem reasonable to have a precise definition for it.

There are other vaccines for deadly diseases required to travel to several countries. Do you ever travel out of the country? I’ve had to provide vaccination proof to more than one country. I’d gladly use this app. But that said, you don’t have to use it but you will have to provide it before you are allowed to board your flight or you will be refused boarding. If you were to board, you would be denied entry to the country and turned around and sent back.

Yellow Fever, Meningitis and surprisingly even polio and certain countries. Next time do your own homework. I can give you the countries too if that makes you feel better. Also little tidbit of fact, in 1944, there was a travel requirement for people to show a Smallpox vaccination before travel, so this is nothing new. Just an app that people have the option to use or not use.
aurodoc

An interesting tidbit about smallpox. George Washington ordered the vaccination of all his soldiers to prevent illness and potentially wiping out his Army
tongo
The wonderful things we learn on this thread!

Edward Jenner did not publish his work on the smallpox vaccine until 1801.

George Washington commanded the Continental Army from 1775 until 1783. He died in 1799.

He really was ahead of his time, wasn't he?
tomasz2013
Well that proves it then. Nothing can exist until its published.
Hold my beer.
The first clear reference to smallpox inoculation was made by the Chinese author Wan Quan (1499–1582) in his Douzhen xinfa (痘疹心法) published in 1549.[33] Inoculation for smallpox does not appear to have been widespread in China until the reign era of the Longqing Emperor (r. 1567–1572) during the Ming Dynasty.
tongo
OK, I'm holding your beer, but your post indicates you've probably drunk too much already, so I'm not giving it back.

Why did you change the subject? Perhaps it's because what I said was spot on, and you had some evil desire to fight me? So you changed to a different subject in order to obfuscate others?

Vaccine is not inoculation. Unless you are uninformed on medical terms. The original poster's subject was vaccination (which, by definition, requires a vaccine), not inoculation. I continued with his subject without changing it. If you felt the need to post, you should have stayed on topic.
aurodoc
aurodoc 1
I should have been more specific by saying immunization. While Jenner used cowpox, prior to this small amounts of smallpox from active pustules was used for immunization. If folks who are leery about vaccination then I would anticipate that the acceptance of injecting smallpox for immunization would probably be a no go as well
captbruce

such a sad state of affairs, and all of this for a virus that has a 99.8% overall recovery rate. Just so you understand, this information is for the countries that people are traveling to. So to answer your question about people with HIV, obviously you aren’t informed enough to understand that HIV isn’t AIDS so I’m going to assume you are taking about the former not the latter, several countries do require proof of that. Actually until recently, it was illegal to enter into the US if you were HIV positive. So, yes countries can require proof of anything they want from people entering their country. I think everyone here needs to understand that this is simply a way to make providing this information. You don’t have to use it but you will have to provide it to get on a flight to certain countries because that country requires it.

When vaccination is required by the government to travel and board the aircraft, then it IS the airline’s business.

Using the electronic vaccination record is optional and a matter of convenience, but you’re going to have to show proof of vaccination for certain flights, and that will be recorded by the airline anyway.
azuresc
Most of these people are railing about something that isn’t the issue. You are absolutely right, it’s the foreign country that are requiring documentation. Airlines are doing this on behalf of said countries. You can always present your vaccination manually and not use the app. Simply. If they have their panties in a wad because of the requirements of other countries, the don’t need to go to said countries.

There is no constitutionally protected right to fly, and you are already required to show government issued IDs to board the aircraft.

A private company can mandate anything they want as long as it doesn't discriminate against protected groups. Ain't got nothing to do with the Constitution.
pwahle2012
As long as they operate on their own fundings and don’t beg for public money to survive, they can revoke their mission of public transportation. But we are talking about IATA airlines and if they implement their Covid passport they’ll loose customers big time and the “low” cost airlines will take over their business. It did happen before. The market shall decide the outcome of this blackmail.
azuresc
You do know the IATA is a travel organization not an airline so what customers are they going to loose? Also, most hospitals in this country are private now and the get billions of taxpayer dollars, are you going after them?

The airlines are private business but they are controlled by the FAA. Aside from that you need to find out the true facts surrounding the "vaccine". It's not what you have been told on CNN. “... you do not have a constitutional right to an airline ticket.” Not any more, many countries have rules that you cannot discriminate against people based on their medical conditions. This includes being vaccinated or not. Until now nobody have been checked during pandemics (flue, cholera, dengue fever, typhus, etc...) before boarding a plane. even during Covid-SARS in 2003, there never have been a requisite for testing before boarding a plane. Human rights apply everywhere in public and private environment.

Freedom has become a shield against logic, facts, and empathy. Bravery has become openly practicing racist hatred, being selfish, and being determined to dismiss any attempt to become more informed about reality.

Fox News IS their reality. Fox News profits from their gullibility and rage. They are like drug dealers, selling heroin to their buyers. They sell their hate and rage extremely well. A flash of cleavage, pearly white teeth, and every psychological trick in the book. I just can't see what the long term goal is. When America is in ruins, they lose too. Every rich person that contributes their money to dark groups sponsoring the rage and hatred loses too.

We ALL lose. Why? Is it that important that they 'win', that they kill America, and Australia, and England? Why? Isn't it better if we all respect each other, or is the 'New American Aristocracy' that much of a benefit for the ultra rich.

"letting people be" is the Crux of the matter. In fact - almost all matters. Lately is all about the amount of control that certain people and government entities want to exert over others, and even levels of control that your neighbor wants to exert over you. not long ago this country used to be about respecting each other's wishes and leaving each other the fuck alone. That doesn't happen anymore. To many people wants their way and wants everybody else to conform to their way. that is actually also the very start difference between the left and the right when it comes to the population. The right just wants to have their freedoms and to be left alone. The left wants to control everybody and wants to cancel anything that doesn't conform to their beliefs. This is systemically problematic and is more dangerous than anything that has been brought up with regards to viruses or anything else.

At altitude, an airline cabin is probably the cleanest and most well-circulated environment possible. But, that's where the airline idiots are the most afraid.

Pathetic.

Covid 19 infection is different than other illnesses mentioned since it is airborne transmitted. We have never had a real pandemic since 1918 influenza when only ship travel was in existence. The problem for me is that anyone can forge a vaccination card. There will be difficulty confirming actual vaccinations which are probably collected in each state in some databank. Since this "passport" is all being done after starting vaccination and not thought out beforehand, I think showing your vaccination card is OK and that anyone who is discovered presenting a phony vax card should be fined and banned from flying.

HIPPA law isn’t what most people think it is. Plenty of others can access records including your insurance company. Cancer registries can get that information and if you have certain communicable diseases like syphilis your information is sent without your permission

Apparently you are unaware that a plane is one of the safest places to be. With fresh air being recirculated every minute or so and the mask mandate, I’d RATHER be in a plane! In fact, my husband and I flew from the East coast to Monterey, Ca last October. No repercussions whatsoever. Already booked another trip there for September. If you want to live your life in seclusion, great! That’s one less person on my whale watch of catamaran sail.

Why, when I received my first shot, was given a CDC card indicating I had completed the first vaccination and after the second vaccination again my card was updated. I have taped this card in my passport. Sounds like this is a possible profit center for the Biden administration. It won't do a damned bit of good.

Those that promote the vaccine say that if you get it you will not get the CCP Virus and you can't spread it to others. So if you get the vaccine, why would you care if the person next you did not get it? Next, polls say about 50% of the population say they will not get the vaccine. That's probably high but 1/3 will not take it. The airlines are cutting out 1/3 of their potential customers for no real reason
craiglgood
Craig Good -1
This old "if you're vaccinated why do you care?" trope from anti-vaxxers is tired and stupid. Look up how herd immunity works.

Anybody who refuses vaccination you is truly being a sociopath besides inviting harm to themselves. Those people don't deserve to be where other people are, and that includes on airliners.
stevepeck1
I would like to understand this argument. Let’s say the guy breathing in the row behind you is stupid. You cannot catch his stupid because you are inoculated… You have an education. Why therefore should anyone care if they are on a plan filled with stupid which they cannot catch? Seriously.
artpauly
Typical. All you can do is resort to personal attacks and insults. You offer NO facts to show why I am wrong.
cwinston
A number of people who receive a vaccine (any vaccine) may have less functional immune systems (blood cancers, etc.) For instance, even with increasing age, the immune system is not as functional and a robust response to the vaccine may not be as likely. Sure, maybe fewer will now die and end up in the hospital (as is suggested in the data), but one still does not want to get this illness due to potential long-lasting illness and disability. In addition, herd immunity requires a great number of people to be vaccinated so that the disease is tamped down (much like with smallpox, measles, and polio) protecting the community and lowering the potential for the disease to mutate as it spreads.
MHunkler
Unlike measles, smallpox and polio, immunization for COVID allows the “immune “ to catch and carry the disease.
MHunkler
Herd immunity only works if immunity to the virus is possible. Current “vaccines” don’t convey immunity, they lessen the symptoms in the people that get infected because they believe they are immune.

this is going to make life much easier for the traveling public and the airline crew members who need to verify their test and vaccination status; the sooner the better. currently every country as a different form, requirement, and verifying this take an incredible amount of time and frustrates many customers who did not get the correct test or result have expired. great step forward...

Some of us have had COVID and recovered. There is no medical evidence of statistically significant reinfection. In fact, vaccinations don't claim greater immunity than recovered COVID immunity. But airlines and some states want proof of vaccination without consideration for recovered COVID patients, who have natural immunity. This is discrimination against persons based on recovered COVID status. "Passports" should identify recovered COVID, negative COVID test results, and the vaccinated.
pwahle2012
Airlines are public transportation. They have been rescued so many times because of tax payers funds. They use public facilities like airports, FAA, ATC paid and maintained by tax dollars. So they cannot hide behind being a private corporation to refuse service to the general public. Then tomorrow the NY transit shall do the same and stop access to millions users who have paid the salaries of NY Transit employees, maintained the network and financed the new investment in rolling cars.
If tomorrow a majority of people decide to have an embargo on the airline industry then the whole economy goes bankrupt (aircraft manufacturers and suppliers, airports, construction and maintenance companies, chambers of commerce which finance the airports, shuttle buses, utilities corporations, oils and gas companies, etc...). One thing is certain, the airline industry shall loose. Blackmailing is never profitable because other companies (outside of IATA) shall take over the business.

Why do so many persons who can get or will get vaccinated worry about others who do not want to wear a mask or get vaccinated? They are protected, right? And I would think that those same people would be glad to see the anti maskers and anti vaxers contract covid.
lgoodyear
We still have a year maybe two working thru the variants of this virus, maybe a yearly vaccine forever. If a certificate or app allows me to travel which helps, repeat only helps contain the spread, why not? All you 1984 types will still get to travel when you want, go where you want and do what you want when you get there.

When a "Destination" entity decides that the incoming airlines must PRE "screen" travellers, either by demanding an "approved" negative test or perhaps just PROOF of two shots and a MASK, that is their right. It has nothing to do with the US Constitution or your "individual" rights as you may see them.
Our local "state" government has already come out with an APP, part of which will accomplish the same thing as the future IATA APP which will be proof of vaccination or as some are CALLING it: A VAXX PASSPORT.
Since I'm already providing the GLOBAL ENTRY/NEXUS systems at the airport all the information they require to qualify as a PRE-CLEARANCE traveller, I don't have any problem ADDING the VAXX info to my Govt Health APP or to the IATA APP. Whatever is best for me to quickly pass through the PRE-CLEARANCE line works for me.
Those that can't or won't get these "clearances" have a different line where they can "explain" their problems to the always receptive government agents while I've already gone on my way.
MichaelScallan
I have a GLOBAL Entry card, and TSA pre-check status. These systems have NEVER required me to inject a drug into my body. You do what you want to do. If the airline REQUIRE a vaccination, then I will charter an aircraft and get to my destination, probably faster than you will.

The only "personal insults and attacks" by anyone regarding this topic is the US Government shoving this unnecessary vaccine down our throats.
jmadunleavy
John D 3
What area of the US is shoving the unnecessary vaccine down anyone's throat? As far as I am aware the vaccine is voluntary and nothing I have seen or heard varies from that.
ThomasNygard
Being forced to utilize a "passport" or show evidence of a vaccine on one's mobile devise, or any other manner, certainly renders this mandatory. At least for anyone with visions of moving more then 500 miles from home.
ThomasNygard
We simply, and, scientifically, do not have a pandemic! Do the math and read the statistics. In a nutshell, roughly 99.75% of anyone that catches this "flu" recovers from it. The death rate, the true number of which is closely guarded by all of the world organizations, is so minuscule that it will not show up on a basic graph. Not to demean anyone's losses, but this "flu" virus is "medically, statistically irrelevant.
