Air Canada fined $65K, blasted for ‘rude’ behaviour after family forced off flight
A client fee in India has ordered Air Canada and partnering airline, Jet Airways, to pay a Canadian family about $65,000 Cdn. The cash is supposed to compensate the family for the “psychological agony and harassment” they suffered when Air Canada ordered them off a flight. In September 2017, Minali Mittal from Oakville, Ont., and her two younger kids boarded a Toronto-bound Air Canada flight after a stopover in New Delhi. Air Canada does not fly from Chandigarh and it is in Canada’s best interests for AC not to board or push back from the airport in Delhi with a sick passenger especially on a 14 hour flight. A routing that may take the aircraft over the arctic via the polar routes leaving alternate airports 2 to 3 hours away from medical assistance. This is critical when flying from a foreign country with known health issues. The recent Emirates flight to JFK that was quarantined proves that Air Canada was acting in everyones’ best interest.
