Wow! I thought all the aviation fans here would put down airgoddess for wanting to hide public data?

How'd I get the brunt?

I'm all for data being available. So people here are saying it should be hidden? ( I saw the blocked / not blocked filtering buttons on the FA page).

And here I was trying to be polite.

@airgoddess1 - You were saying the flight info should be private to hide people that earned enough to be able to fly private, right?

I mentioned the 2 sides of the coin of data availability - can be used for good / could be used for bad. And cited an example of data that could be used for good / possibly bad. And pointed out the issue of who should get to decide what to hide / allow.

How does all that equate to me saying its ok to hide Biden Jr.? It's YOU that came here saying 'hide the data'.

YOU (airgoddess1) want to hide some data (people flying to the tournament) and not others (a mansion in malibu)?

In other news, I came to the article hoping for a link to the map showing the camera crew helicopters over the course.

I am not sure where this misdirected belief that you're entitled to some sort of privacy when you are out in public comes from. Just as the public is entitled to know who operates any vehicle on the ground, the public is entitled to know who owns and operates any vehicle in the air, including space craft Mr. Musk. A lot of businesses try to hide their ownership behind trust companies, alphabet corporations, and straw owners.

I feel all flights should be reported in real time. Exceptions for military and the president only.

It is good to see Tiger back competing.

The general public is not privy to know who a vehicle’s registration or VIN belongs to without just cause. Even then it requires legwork. Law enforcement can easily access those records, but even then law enforcement must have probable cause or a warrant to stop it, identify occupants, and if needed, search it. Put wings on the vehicle and a N number, that changes in many ways.

Certainly not saying you are wrong, but that's the 'problem' / tradeoff these days with data - it has good uses. But can be misused.

Strava has a product / app that lets you track your location when working out. And put it on the web. US soldiers were putting their locations out on the web / showing locations of 'secret' military bases in Afganistan.
