you don't fully appreciate the size of that front fan (even without its front shroud)until you see the guys with the flashlights who are peering at the top clearance of the engine when it is inside the Ruslan. It's YUUUGGGE. (you know darn well the Ukranians were taking notes on what they could replace those Lotarev D-18T's with at some point...CF6's were at one time being considered for the AHTOHOB AH-124) Very cool video!!
You could almost fit a 737 fuselage into the engine. CargoLogicAir (Volga-Dnper) is still in design phase with GE about re-engineing their 124's..Antonov is also in discussion with both GE (CF6) and P&W (PW4000) about their 124's and the 225.
Liked one of the comments about using a different engine on the Antonov AC as they replaced all of the nav and com equipment along with displays on the 225 with US stuff
It was a comment in an article that with the standoff in Ukraine vs Russia the next update for the Antonov will be a mix of “east and west” having America. Suppliers for certain parts and possibly engines
The way it was worded, "as they replaced all of the nav and com equipment along with displays on the 225 with US stuff" makes it past tense like it's already been done...no, it hasn't and no, it won't. Engines and APU's yes
