I agree. I used to be a crew scheduler for Eagle (before the 4 carrier merger) and ATR42's have 1 attendant, 72's have 2. I believe it was a seating config of 43/64.

Eagle used to consist of 4 companies: Simmons handled DFW/ORD hubs, Flagship BNA/JFK, Wings West DFW/LAX and Executive MIA/SJU. I worked for Simmons. The livery was all the same though. We worked at AA's System Operations Control in Ft Worth.

The carriers merged in late 1998 or early 1999 I believe. I accepted a job with Lone Star/Aspen Mountain air at that point. Cool airline. They had Fairchild Metro's and Dornier 328's with all first class seating and free drinks :)

Did the Metro's have an FA or did only the D328 flights have free drinks?

Each plane had one F/A. The Metro III's didn't have the all first class configuration. Only the 328's had free alcohol. I flew on DFW-PNS, DFW-TYS, DFW-SAF on the 328's on days off. Fun times!

It may have been an ATR on normal service. I couldn't really tell because of the water spray but that sure didn't look like an ATR in the photograph show; to boot the pilot said that he brought in 66pax. I didn't think the ATR's could carry that many. Actually, if you look close thru the spray, that looks like a 737 or an ERJ of some kind. I really didn't understand the pilot's about not enough aircraft, going from 30 down to 4, either

They are pulling out the entire caribbean... No more atr from San Juan to any of the other islands. The lessors have already published new leases for them after AMR return them.

Typical of the Airlines in Puerto Rico they only survive for for approximately 10 years whti exception of Caribear that last much longer til it was bough by Easter Airline. I flew for PrinAir for almost 10 year I was #8 in the seniority list.

That is strange from a bankrupt carrier, if for a fact it is.

It's possible that the Beef Island route was profitable, but not profitable enough to justify keeping the ATR fleet or the SJU ATR pilot base.

Possibly both, but the last I heard AA had all the ATR's on the sale block, a bunch already parked at Abilene, primarily because of age/maintenance costs, etc. I think they were looking at South America as a market

They aren't owned by American - they were leased and are being returned to their lessors in bankruptcy.

I hate that the lessors are going to get stiffed but them dang things need to be ran off a cliff and melted down, never to fly again. Ain't nothing but a personal opinion but that is the sorriest excuse for an airplane ever certified. Slow and noisy and handles like a logwagon. God must have given a special blessing to a man that had to fly one on a regular basis.IMHO.LOL

It's actually Saab 340's parked at ABI. I live in West Texas and drive by them sometime. I mention this before. I think you brought up weathering issues, which is true. They'd need a lot of work.
