Plane Left Gate With Gun on Board, DFW Airport Says

Airport spokesman David Magana said a 65-year-old woman from Little Elm, Texas had a gun in her carry-on bag that got through the security checkpoint . By the time the woman took her bag and walked away, a TSA agent scanning the D-30 checkpoint noticed the .38-caliber handgun. Magana said the TSA shut down only the security checkpoint, not the entire terminal, and began searching the D concourse and other terminals for the woman. Honesty, if I ever were to choose to carry a weapon, I can't imagine forgetting about it. Obviously someone is not qualified to carry that weapon (and I don't care how many papers she has that say otherwise).

I got to agree here. I'm a 2nd amendment guy myself but CCW is a little different. Love it or hate it, there are restrictions everywhere, and one of the qualifications is to be cognizant of where that weapon is at all times or something to that effect. Then there are places, such as in an airport or on a plane if you get that far, that they are prohibited period. Those things are already the law, just as is the constitution. They have been accepted and agreed to by those involved.As one of the comments above said, what if one of her children or grandchildren found that gun that she forgot was there. She has the permit for CCW but they are totallly prohibited around an Airport unless you are an officer of the law.

have some people that nerver board there plan with out being armed.
but these are not large planes (less then 12 people)

Obviously, this was accidental. They did not stop any plot to perform any nefarious act, in spite of the hoopla spouted by the implied rhetoric of their PR department. What would they have done if she had realized her mistake and hidden the weapon in the terminal, to avoid prosecution, so the rescreen would not have located the weapon?

How was she able to pick up her bag and go in the first place? If he saw the gun when the bag was scanned, why did he not do something right then? Mistake my A#$. Just freakin' lazy. He was probably about ready for break and looking for a cupcake snack, and when he came upon the real thing he didn't recognize it.

The TSA agents screwed up in a major way on this one, and that will undoubtedly be everyone's focus. However, it's also the responsibility of anyone legally carrying a concealed weapon to be 100% conscious of it at all times and know and follow all laws for the area they're in. This is a prime example of unacceptable complacency on both sides of the checkpoint. That spokesperson's response is terrible as well, showing that no one at TSA is accepting any kind of responsibility for a lapse that would severely upset the very same general public that the agency was created to protect.

You are correct on personal responsibility. It wasn't in the article but I heard on the news that the woman had a "CONCEALED CARRY" permit, had been somewhere the night before and just left it in her purse and forgot it was there. That being said, a permit holder should be cognizant of a weapon at all times, BUT, besides terrorists, that is something all them $ are spent for on the TSA, to head off stuff like this. There was no good reason that woman should have gotten by the checkpoint, let alone boarded and away from the gate.

Doubtful. With the bulletproof cockpit doors, she may have been able to wreak havoc in the back, until the passengers caught up with her, but hijacking was probably not a risk even if she wanted to.

How many incidents of this nature will be required to wake up the voters of this country. Let's all attend town hall meetings held by our congressmen. Stand up and ask the question of what will they do to correct the monumental errors made by the past and present administrations. Ask for their opinion on whether we are getting the best bang for the buck with the TSA. State that you feel it necessary to either disband this agency, modify the system to make it relevent. Nothing will happen until WE stand up and make it happen.

also - concealed carry is serious business.. you MUST be aware of your firearm at all times! What if her child or grandchild found a gun that she forgot she was carrying? They should revoke her CCW permit - Oh, by the way, the TSA is guilty...

Bullet-proof doors have only been partially deployed. There are not enough to give the public confidence in their ability to detract would-be hijackers.
