I carry a SPOT personal locator with me in the plane all the time. if going down, It will be the first thing I stuff in a pocket before I unlatch the door before I set up for emergency landing. I have tested it and it is accurate to about 10-15 feet ... just need to remember to keep fresh batteries in it and test it now and then.

I carry a ACR rescuelink PLB in my plane for the same reasons in addition to my panel mounted 406. Just checked the battery last weekend.
