Its not an "emergency landing" unless the pilot declares an emergency. I hate news headlines.

I agree--something goes mechanically wrong and everybody thinks they're going to die. Silly...

I think the pilot would just keep flying to there destination if it wasn't an emergency. Even if the problem wasn't that severe, the pilot doesn't want a major mechanical problem popping up during the middle of the flight. There just playing it safe.
