I wonder if Delta will be tempted to operate an all business class A220/C-Series from LGA (or JFK) to London City Airport? It has the range and would be very attractive to the financial services travelers. British Airways operates a A319 between London City and JFK but flying westbound it must refuel in Shannon Ireland. The A220/C-Series could fly non-stop

Wow - I didn't know they flew an a319 on that route.

Actually I believe it is a A-318, but same ideaa.

It wouldn't be allowed to do LCY-LGA, LGA doesn't have customs and any flight must be domestic or be from a preclear airport, such at YYZ or YUL.

Actually it wouldn't be allowed at all. LGA has a perimeter rule prohibiting flights from arriving or departing over 1500 miles from it. Plus, I don't know much about the 220, but I imagine the fuel load required for such a flight would be a stretch if even possible on LGA's short runways. The current LCY-US flight stops in Shannon, Ireland to preclear customs, and more importantly, fuel up to capacity for the flight over the pond due to LCY's short runways.

I don't know about prohibitions at LGA but Bombardier successfully flew a non-stop demonstration flight (with representative load) from LCY to JFK. https://www.bombardier.com/en/media/newsList/details.bombardier-c-series-aircraft-completes-landmark-non-stop-transat.bombardiercom.html

...exceptions to the perimeter rule are flights on Saturdays and flights to Denver.

If you ever get the chance to fly into LCY, take it. The steep approach & what seems like eye-level tour of the City business district skyline is spectacular.

I believe British Airways operates A-318s on that route LCY-JFK, also the A-220 would have to be “steep approach” certified to land in LCY if i am not mistaking and i din’t know id the 220 is.

The A220 is certified for the steep approach at LCY - Swiss Airlines flies the A220 into LCY
