Not found on Orbitz: A $3.27M HNL roundtrip

送信時刻:

The U.S. Air Force tells the Hawaii Reporter newspaper it costs $181,757/hour to operate the Air Force Boeing 747-400 carrying the President of the U.S. (aka, Air Force One). A DC-Honolulu roundtrip costs taxpayers $3.27 million. Given Obama's "pay their fair share" rhetoric of late, I wonder what the same roundtrip would cost using an Air Force-configured Boeing 757 or 737. Any aircraft carrying the POTUS, after all, remains identified as Air Force One. Would this not be a great… (www.theblaze.com) さらに...

More conservative horse shit.

Jesus lets talk about the trips GWB took.

We desparately need to get this unqualified jerk ot of the whitehouse, but do it without air Force 1. This is the guy who spends untold millions of tax-payer dollars on the most expensive private jet in the world, and Bad-mouths everyone else who owns a private jet, even though many of them are spending their own money. he has done more to destroy general aviation than anyone in history, but then again, he has done more to destroy our great Nation than anyone in history.

BO reminds me of some searsucker suit preacher "do as I preach, not as I do". Admittedly, he is not the first president to be a complete phony.

At least they didn't send the dog separately on a Gulfstream like last summer's sojourn to Martha's Vineyard.

Could save all the demo teams by taking 3 less trips to Maui a year :(

Grover Norquist is going to present a promise that all GOP candidates must sign. It states that absolutely no taxpayer dollars will be spent when the GOP President is on vacation. The GOP President himself must pay all travel expenses, including the entire operating cost of Air Force 1, his security detail, and that of his family while traveling.

This is not going to happen, even 1000 years after hell freezes over so don't bother to let us know about it.

How old are you people? I have read more mature stuff from a bunch of teenagers! You're just a bunch of old, grizzled, republicans. Look at the site you are getting your "info" from! Its a conservative blog! Keep your politics to yourself, this is not a presidential gossip site!

Now Steven, take a moment to put down the KoolAid. The Hawaiian Reporter and the Daily Mail are hardly "conservative blogs". The Reporter is doing what journalism used to do...investigating and reporting to the public. It has a notable history of doing so and they gore both parties when deserved...check out their website.

The Daily Mail is a leading British paper. It is right of center but is not exactly a mouthpiece for the Klan...which were mostly Dems anyway. It is sad that this has to be reported in the foreign press because our MSM continues to imbibe the KoolAid too.

When facts and logic do not support the desired conclusion the immature resort to name calling. Both those publications reported these as fact without commentary to allow the reader to draw their own conclusions. The most obvious conclusion has to be the Obamas have tin ears when it comes to spending the money confiscated from 53% of us on their vacations....or "green energy" or a list of other personal projects.

I guess we should be thankful he is only going to Hawaii and not Kisumu.

The cost numbers could not be the correct cost of flying a B747! I believe the costs mentioned are the TOTAL COSTS of the B747, the other aircrfat flying with it, like the one that carries their limo, the security personnel, and on and on. It is really ridiculous to spend that money everytime he decides to fly somewhere. If you think Hawaii is bad think of the same entourage going to Europe or Asia. I understand that everytime he travels there are literally HUNDREDS of support people of all kinds that tarvel also! Is that really necessary?

Every Presidential trip has crazy costs associated with it. Yes, it is ridiculous. The President is a man ( woman) just like the rest of us, no better, no worse. An extra margin of safety is warranted but it has gotten way out of hand, just like everything else in D.C. These politicians (all of them) have become a special class of entitled people. Just ask them! In reality they are government workers, no better than the troop in the field. As far as aviation is concerned they all should feel blessed to fly on any of the great aircraft provided by the taxpayers-not entitled.

The problem is clear folks, in case of emergency it is available to protect the president and keep him in control once in the air. The price is the price, no one cried foul when Reagan came home to California over and over. Yes a 757 could carry him back and forth, but the reality is there are two 747's that always go with the president, one stationed elsewhere as a back up. And if I were president and came from Hawaii I'd go home there too, just like all of YOU !!!

Aloha Mr President !!!

I believe most everyone is looking at this from a desired point of the Haters Club. From a nationalist side instead of looking at who the President is and looking at what the President is, The President of these United States of America (POTUS). Every time the Office travels it sends a message to the rest of the world. He's never on holiday. We're saying to the rest of the world we're not Coach but ultra FIRST Class. We don't scimp especially on security when it comes to our National standing in the world. Take the blinders off and see it for what it really is. One of the only things worth spending our tax dollars on included in the Military budget. The bigger the plane and entourage the better I say. It's what we all fight for. Revel in it.
WALLACE24

Not part of the haters club myself. Don't have a problem with any pres flying the big bird. But don't tell me they can't take a lot of cost out. They are asking us to tighten our belts, so the leaders (all of them) should display some leadership. Remember, it is the office of the president that commands respect. It is an individual choice to respect the man.

President Obama is in Hawaii again with his whole family. Go ahead, you GOP Obama bashers and critisize him for spending the Holidays costing the US Government, was it half-a-million-dollares per hour, or thereabouts.

Now Chalet, have you drank the Kool Aid too?lol. I'm a thinkin' it wasn't that far back that you were on the other side of the fence. See my comment above. There ain't a President we've had that hasn't came from somewhere, whether California or Plains GA and has returned there on vacations and Holidays. The entourage comes with the office, not the man.

No Wayne, I didn't mean you, it was intended for other bloggers who demonized the absolutely necessary entourage that accompanies AF 1 wherever Potus goes.

I agree. At the risk of sounding political, regardless of my own views, I have never seen a POTUS that has caused such polarity and division among people. It seems the mere mention of his name in ANY forum, regardless of topic, will be turned into a political discussion. While I am not crazy about him either, this is not the time nor place. In this instance you have a combination of inept reporting and then those not liking him using that inept reporting as an an excuse to trash him.

Well, there are many opinions here, some politically oriented and some aviation oriented. While any President would like all this attention lavished on him, a big part of it is the Secret Service and what is mandated to them to protect him, by the Congress. It is not the man but the office. Some Presidents have been more sensitive to these costs than others and have tried to mitigate them where they could; others have just took it as a perk or requirement and went on not giving it a 2nd thought. Not sure which one but USAF has got a requirement list to Boeing for a new AF1 and backup. Personally, no more time than these 2 have on them and how they are maintained, I'd rather see a little higher operating cost than spend the $ for 2 new 747's, kinda like the Marine one deal last year, but it will take the MSM to bring this out and POTUS to get involved.

For someone who has demonized trips to places like Las Vegas and corporate jet use, it's hypocritical to fly the wife, kids, extended family and dog on separate US Air Force aircraft to go to Hawaii to waste Millions more of our tax dollars on a vacation. The Presidential retreat at Camp David isn't good enough? The difference with Presidents such as both Bush's and Reagan who traveled for the holidays is that they actually owned their vacation homes and provided housing to all the staff and security people who accompanied them. In the most recent example, President GW Bush traveled around the often ignored western US almost daily while based at his Texas ranch.

"Thus, the total for the nine-hour trip from Washington to Hawaii and then back again will come in at $3,271,611." Putting all the $ and politics aside, how in the Sam Hill do you get from DC to Hawaii and back to DC in 9 hrs. That 747 ain't the Concord

Only Republikans can come up with such an absurd accusation. Man, this is plain old politics, solid facts get a back seat.

Wayne:
The flight should be 9 hours EACH way. What is not fair is to attach the total cost to the B747. There is no way that anybody would fly that airplane if the cost is $185.000 per hour! Again, they are talking about the TOTAL cost of the visit including flight time for several aircraft, hotels for security crew, and the rest of the people involved, etc etc.
preacher1
preacher1 0
Yeah, I was pretty sure of that on the time. Just more reporter error.lol. You are correct on that cost as far as total trip cost. I remember seeing some numbers from Boeing in that regard and it ain't nowhere near that.lol. You can see my comment below, but with all the crap, electronic and communication wise that is crammed into one nowadays, I doubt there'd be any room left on a 777, let alone the 57's that are in the fleet. Most of that is the office and not the man. POTUS inherits a lot of that when they take office.
jkudlick
"A team of between four and six Marine Corps will travel along on a separate flight..." Wait, we have more than one Marine Corps? Even just one Marine Corps will have a hard time going anywhere on a single flight - even an all cattle-class A380!

"However, taxpayers are responsible for housing monies associated with the U.S. Secret Service, Coast Guart and Navy Seals." Coast Guart? Even Microsoft's spell check told me that was wrong! And SEALs don't do security details for the President, unless he's staying in the barracks in Coronado or Little Creek.

BTW - the Daily Mail is widely recognized as a tabloid paper, much like the New York Post and Fox News. They have an obvious agenda and aren't afraid to say so.

Not worth a comment !

Oops, it's actually a Boeing 747-200B that the Air Force operates as Air Force One.
According to a report by U.S. News & World Report last fall, the C-32 (B757) used as Air Force Two (there are four of them) costs $12,188/hour to operate. That translates to being about $169,000/hour more cost efficient than the Air Force 747 (VC-25). On a nine-hour flight to HNL, it costs taxpayers $1.5m more for the POTUS to fly on the 747 compared to the 757. That's insane. What's wrong with a private 757 for vacation travel?

When are they going to replace Air Force One with 747-8s or 787s? They should be more fuel efficient then those old 747-200s.

How come the flight hour of the 747 costs roughly 180K and that of the 757 only 12K if it is about half the size/weight etc. of the bigger one. In reality the flight hr of the 747 is in the range of 30K, one sixth the figure claimed by that "unbiased report". Suspiciuosly sounds like a FOX News alert. There!!

The total operating cost is different then the direct operating cost.
Falconus
Falconus 0
As I said above, I suspect that the cost has included security and personnel, which would of course be different for Air Force 1 (President) and Air Force 2 (Vice President). I think that the direct operation cost (in the air) of a modern Boeing 747 is about $6700 per hour, according to this: http://askville.amazon.com/cost-airline-fly-commercial-jet-York-Los-Angeles/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=2593308.

So either Air Force One is gold-powered, or there are a lot of additional costs that have nothing to do with the physical aircraft.
Falconus
Falconus 0
I think that it's not the aircraft; it's the security, personnel, etc. That being said, I would support using a more efficient aircraft, as it's just plane wasteful to use a Boeing 747 for an application like that.

More political venting? Good bye Flt aware, it's now home to those wanting to vent over their failed aspirations.... This used to be a great source of aviation news.

Why was Crawford, TX preferred over Camp David? What was the cost of flying the VC-25's vs. the C-32's there? Leave the political crap out of it. The item should have never been posted here anyway. Eject.

Good morning to all responders. I must agree with the comments of Steven Arnold and Daniel Bailey. This site is not intended to be a venue for political debate. Let's talk airplanes, not politics! Move on ladies and gentlemen.

Yep, i don't know what it is, but in the last couple of months, FA has been burning up with alot of political talk. There seems to be a lot of frustrated people out there. From where i am from, if a politician is seen as using government aircraft in the wrong way, people speak up and the media get's involved (national media, not some hole in the wall newspaper)and the politician is put in the hot seat!! In other words, FA is not the place to vent your displeasure with what Obama did or did not do. Go and write to your congressman/congresswoman. Call up you local media outlet. Posting it on here is just annoying and useless to your cause!!
