A routine traffic stop near the Weed Airport led to an arrest after highway enforcement officials discovered over a pound of meth, heroin, and drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle.

At 11:05 a.m. on Thurs., Mar. 10, a Siskiyou County Domestic Highway Enforcement (DHE) Agent stopped a gray Ford Focus while traveling along Interstate 5 near the Weed Airport after observing an unknown traffic violation.

According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), a second agent responded to the stop and both observed "criminal indicators" suggesting something illegal was taking place.

One of two people inside of the Focus—the passenger—was identified as 48-year-old Samuel Wayne Blanchfield. During an interview with Blanchfield, it was determined there was methamphetamine inside of the vehicle that belonged to him.

SCSO said the agent searched the vehicle and found over 1 pound of meth, 5.4 grams of heroin, and drug paraphernalia.

Ultimately, Blanchfield was arrested and booked into the Siskiyou County Jail for felony possession of narcotics for sale and felony transportation of narcotics for sale.
