Pilot taxiing for takeoff at Northern Colorado Regional Airport suffers fatal medical emergency

A pilot taxiing to depart Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland has died as the result of a medical emergency.

The pilot was operating a private Pilatus PC 12 single-engine turboprop airplane and experienced a medical emergency Monday. The aircraft continued taxiing and went off the taxiway and into snow, which stopped the plane, according to Jason Licon, airport manager.

The pilot was treated by an emergency medical team at the scene and transported to an area hospital, where the pilot died, according to Licon.

Northern Colorado Medical Center of the Rockies is located 3.5 miles from the airport.

Licon said he was unsure of the plane's destination.

He said the plane can carry seven to nine passengers plus the pilot depending on how the plane is configured, but that there was a lone passenger aboard at the time of the incident, which did not delay or halt any other operations at the airport.

As of Monday afternoon, the Larimer County Coroner's Office had not released the name, manner or cause of death of the pilot.

In early October, a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the airport, resulting in minor injuries to the pilot
