Could There Be A Donald J. Trump Airport In Our Country’s Future?

by SharonKurheg

Regardless of whether you think he deserves it or not, Donald Trump certainly likes to go for the biggest and the best when it comes to him and his name. Even before he had become president, there have been Trump-branded hotels, office buildings, golf courses, casinos (OK, one is about to be demolished, but still…), etc. And since becoming president, he’s been interested in crowd size and even tried several occasions to have a military parade in his honor.

When modern-day presidents are done with their presidential duties, a presidential library and museum are typically set up.

  • The Barack Obama Presidential Center is in the planning stages and will be located in Chicago
  • The George W. Bush Presidential Center, which opened in 2013, is located near Dallas
  • The William J. Clinton Library & Museum can be found in Little Rock
  • The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum is on the campus of Texas A&M University
  • These go all the way back to Herbert Hoover

Although Mr. Trump hasn’t appeared to put much thought into a presidential library (at least he’s never mentioned one in any of his tweets. By the way, should you go searching, this site is, as Mr. Trump would call it, “fake news”), he has asked about something else that perhaps he considers to be bigger and better.

He reportedly wants an airport named after him.

It started back in 2018 when Trump apparently mentioned a couple of times that he’d like to have an airport named after him. And then starting in mid-December or so of this year, he’s been asking his aides and advisers about how actually to get that done. He also clarified that “no president” would want an airport named after him if it had a bad reputation or was falling apart.

So not only does he want an airport named after him, he wants it to be a “great one.”

Assuming that Mr. Trump goes back to living at Mar-A-Lago, in Palm Beach (well, if he’s allowed to. Although he’s now apparently looking at new digs), after Joe Biden is inaugurated on January 20, one would think that he’d like nearby Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) to be renamed after him.

As per PBI officials, they haven’t received any inquiries about a potential name change. However, even if they did, it might not be so easy to do so. Last year we wrote this post about who owns airports. In line with that post, the owner of PBI is Palm Beach County, which is solidly Democratic. Its (equally Democratic) County Commission would most likely be the ones to vote on changing the airport’s name. So between that and the problems Trump has caused for the county over the years, the chances of them voting in favor of that are probably pretty slim.

This isn’t to say that he might not get an airport named after him somewhere else. As much as Palm Beach County is not a fan of Trump’s, other government entities in Florida, and other states, apparently are. So whereas the Donald J. Trump Airport might not happen in Palm Beach, perhaps it will happen somewhere else.

Time will tell.

How about KFLU…works on a few levels. Perfect for a Queens native.

That a-hole it illiterate, so he should get a library and if he gets an airport I’ll fly 4,000 miles out of my way to avoid it if I have to.

We already have Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock Arkansas. Why not Donald J. Trump Airport?

I nominate KPMP, Pompano Beach Airpark, not far enough away from Marred a Lardo to have been spared numerous no fly restrictions every time he came down for the weekend to play golf. And as a side asset, the Goodyear blimp hangar is right there.
