I can't remember seeing the front wheels of the main undercarriage being lowest of the set; isn't it normal for the rear wheels to be lowest?

You are correct, Tom! "Rear's first" is much more stable! My guess is that "front's first" with the 154 had to do with stowing it in the wheel well.
