Flight 2TG from LHR-ATL on January 12, 2018 over the North Atlantic
Comments
how does one get a picture like this?
The caption and registration are incorrect; this is G-STBA, a Boeing 777-336(ER).
Sorry about that typo. Yes, you are correct it is G-STBA. This was taken on the North Atlantic Track System (NATS). We frequently pass or are passed by other aircraft on the same Track. We are separated by 1000' vertically and are allowed to offset 1 or 2 miles right of center (called SLOP, Strategic Lateral Offset Procedures). We were centered while G-STBA was one mile off our right, 1000' below and passing us. GOOD EYES TO READ THAT REGISTRATION!!

Great comment Tom. Don't you just love the acronyms! SLOP for heaven's sake...RVSM all sounds great in theory, but 1000feet vertical separation is barely four times the fuselage length of a B773, nicely illustrated in this shot. Even taking into account tail height, esp.on an A380, further cuts the separation down significantly where there is no lateral offset involved. Call me conservative! Better get back to my(paper)Jepp amendments...
Raked wingtips = 773 :)
