[YouTube] American Eagle Embraer 170 ingests safety cone

送信時刻:

A few seconds into this video, we see an absent-minded ramp agent appear from the right side of the screen and place a safety pylon in front of the number one engine of an American Eagle Embraer 170 regional jet. (www.youtube.com) さらに...

Methinks someone may be seeking new career opportunities.

Maybe feeding the Orca at Sea World? Looked like a good backhand toss there.

"#1 seems to be running a bit rough tonight..."

For those wondering, this employee was actually a middle-aged female, 3-4 months with the company and terminated immediately after this. She claimed she didn't hear the engine running with her hearing protection. I myself am mostly deaf in my right ear from an RPG explosion a few years ago. I double up on hearing protection (softies and cans) and U can still hear even a faint whir of a running engine. And if that's not enough, the rotating beacon should be warning enough. How do I know all of this? I work for the Empire at ORD.

Jose Guillen,
thank you for the on-scene reporting and information.

I think they've done that to some of my bags

That looked about as intentional as it gets. And he then walked away under the jetway, in full view of a monitor. I really don't see much humor in this. I don't think it was a mistake.

Expensive wood chipper (or in this case safety cone chipper).

You only get one use as a chipper before heavy maintenance.

That was a smooth move.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

I just wanted to see if the engine had been shut down yet, honest !!

Then you should have just stuck yer head in for a peak!

And from looking at the window open after the event, the Pilot had "words" for said ramp rat.

I think you are spot on. The chock kicker saw the cone go away (through the engine) and nonchalantly turned around and walked away. I guess the right engine was shut down going into the gate. I do it routinely. All the line guys flee the scene with the knowledge that something out of the ordinary is occurring. Time will tell. And I'd be happy to think he didn't toss that cone in there for grins. They know there are cameras.

Cones are placed on the front and back of aircraft engines and on the side to prevent ground support vehicles from running into them. It still happens, but it's easier to see a cone frofrom the driver's seat than a yellow painted line.

I think the fact that there is a big engine there should be indication enough but some are slower than others.

Worked for both the big bird and little bird at ORD . I would like to know what no mind safety officer made that part of a ramp rats duty to put safety cones in front of any engine. 737's at ORD had markings on the ramp as far as the danger zone. I don't know what airport that was at but it seems to me poor training of ramp personnel of a real "Dick Head" safety officer.. We call that stuff FOD where I worked...

YOU BIG DUMMY!!!!

Since the gate worker didn't get sucked into the engine, I guess we don't have a contestant for the 2014 Darwin awards. It looks very dark at the time. I bet that was the last plane of the night. American probably had to put all of those passengers up in a hotel for the night.

There was a cone in front of the other engine too.
jguillen1225
No pax aboard the aircraft at the time and it was a simple run-up of the #1 engine prior to shutting her down and parking her for the night.

Do my eyes deceive me, or is there one on the ground in front of the right engine also that isn't moving?
joelwiley
joel wiley 1
Yes, there is one there, video edited out the placement. I had to watch the video a few times to catch that the ground crew just sort of flipped the cone on his side.

worked for tsa before this?

Then was this a promotion or a demotion?
RRKen
That depends if the term SUPERSIZE it, or "Welcome to WalMart" is part of his new business vernacular.

I'm surprised he didn't lean in to see where the cone went! Lol
jguillen1225
Middle-aged female actually...

Thx for the info. Men don't have the Darwin award market cornered.
jguillen1225
Ehhhh, you'd be surprised. Been at the airport 3 years now. Seen some stuff. I myself had a few close calls of my own doing when I first started, but I quickly learned. Lately, it's been other people's ignorance that's almost thrown me into the hospital or morgue.
jguillen1225
It was a middle-aged female, and yes, fired immediately.
sgilbert10482
he did that on purpose. who puts a cone next do a engine ready for start up? hopefully his union can fight it so he doesn't get fired
TorstenHoff
If he did do it on purpose he deserves to get fired.
jguillen1225
SHE claims to have not heard the engine running and was fired immediately.
jguillen1225
SHE was fired immediately
