I hope they enjoy the new airplane. The happiness may not last long, as the sudden steep decline in the price of oil will make it hard for them that live on oil to make their payments.

They make their money by carrying INTERNATIONAL traffic. With ever increasing range with new aircraft a one stop to anywhere in the world real, and the Middle East (whether you like it or not) is geographically positioned to take maximum advantage of this

Of course their traffic is international. So is Singapore with roughly triple the population. Qatar is about the same number of folks as Houston, and not really well positioned to serve the major population except as a pit stop for Europe to reach the Far East. In terms of air traffic Hong Kong is better situated geographically to reach the fastest rising and largest group of travelers.

The space plane will be a reality faster than you think. It was a scant 56 years between the Wrights and the B707. It will bring travel times down to 30 to 90 minutes to anywhere on the earth, rendering the current waypoints moot.

The Middle East clings to fifth century ways of life, including the use of Cartels, price-fixing, and artificial shortages of raw materials. They have stolen roughly 20% of the world GNP since 1972. Political stability in other parts of the world has caused an excess of crude oil and subsequent price drop.

The reduced price of crude will cause major disruptions in those economies that have used artificial means to control prices. Those that have become accustomed to the income stream from taking oil from the sand at a cost of $4 a barrel, and selling it for over $100 will find it difficult to maintain their standard of living, including a major airport and a large fleet of planes for a population of 2.2 million.
