thanks alan & paul
I have a lot of hours on that plane. It just recently got new wings to support another many years of weather research.
Great shot! I enjoyed flying those and chasing russian subs during the cold war.
I used to work those in and out of Glenview Naval Station (NBU) in Chicago. They did a great job of keeping Lake Michigan clear of German submarines!(or so we controllers joked with the pilots.)Glenview is but a memory and now I get to watch their dwindling numbers at NAS JAX as the new jets (737 derivative) take over. Never had a fam trip in one, however. Did fly in L-188's with Eastern in the old days.
P-3.s fly over my house several times a week doing training. I live near the Pasco, WA airport which was a naval training base during the war. They fly in circles doing touch and gos and sometimes full stop landings. If I'm outside, I always wave at them but I doubt that they can see me.
That's a stunner, Brian. Five Stars!

Amazing Brian......

Well caught with a fast enough shutter.
What a beautiful airplane. The Electra looks like it is flying standing still. I thought the Eastern livery was so pretty. Literally the Flying Eagle-Golden Falcon. When I was an 8,9 yol kid, my Dad took my brother and myself back to see the grandparents. 1958-9? At Newark, Elizabeth, NJ. The smooth run of engine hum. Like an expensive toy. My Dad ask the pilots if we could look in the cockpit. Back in the day. We looked, then the captain said, 'We have to start pre-flight check list. Please leave.' We went from Washington to Newark at about an 1 1/2 hour. The climb angle was so great that the cabin attendant had a struggle walking up the aisle. I have often wondered why Lockheed did not 'stretch' the Electra and put C-130 engines on the wings. You could not pry us off the ceiling. At one Christmas we got the 'Remco' ??? flying toy model of the Electra with turning props, operating landing gear, and yokes and instrument panel. FS in 1960. We played with the toy for years. Some planes are just works of art.
