Grumman Prowler (16-3891) - The first photo in FAs gallery of the VAQ-142 "Gray Wolves" squadrons 163891 captures the EA-6B Prowler as it is about to land on NAS Fallons runway 31L. br /This scene will not be repeated. Earlier this month, the last US Navy Prowler completed its final "active duty" flight. All Prowlers are now "retired" from the Navys aircraft inventory; all VAQ squadrons are now flying EA-18G Growlers. Another chapter of US naval air history has been closed.

Dave: TYVM for the vote. I've got two snaps of the "Gray Wolves" CAG bird too. They are both excellent captures. Both are on an aviation blogsite article I'm doing about CAG birds. The article is a multi-part article featuring many of the 30+ CAG birds I've clicked. Part 1 is already posted with eight snaps (including both of this squadron's "Gray Wolves" CAG); Part 2 is in progress. If interested in looking it over, email me at OldeCarl (at) gmail.com. And while I'm replying to you, let me know if you are coming out to the Air Races at Reno Stead or if you are interested in a photo day at NAS Fallon (TopGun). I live 40 minutes away from both places. I'm from the east (Buffalo) so I'd enjoy meeting up with you. (Thumbs Up)
Once again, TY for your comment and vote.
Excellent catch, Gary! I didn't know these are still flying! These EA6B are planed to be replaced by the F35.

Hey, Dwight, how have you been?
These aren't flying any more, Dwight. As I indicated in the comment under the pic, the last "active" Prowler completed its final sortie earlier this month and was wfu when it landed at Whidbey Island. So as of earlier this month (about three weeks ago), all of the Navy's Prowlers are now retired. All Prowlers have been replaced by EA-18G Growlers in all the Navy's VAQ squadrons.
This Prowler seen in my pic was not the very last one to fly. This one was retired last month.
I've been busy as can be so I've been a bit remiss in keeping up with your newest pics. I will definitely check your folder. Keep clickin' that shutter, Dwight. :-)
PS: Any chance you'll be coming to the Reno Air Races in September?
