Great picture thanks for sharing! 5*
Did not they say that the sometimes wild but always colorful designs painted on U.S. Navy planes were scuttled as they made them too easy to identify and shoot down. Well I am glad the the good ole times are back. Go Navy.
Looks like a D model?
chalet - that's the CAG bird for the squadron. Since the CAG doesn't fly operational missions (only flying enough to maintain proficiency and carrier qualifications), his/her bird usually has the colored squadron markings on it.
sam - this is definitely an E2-C. VAW-115 hasn't yet taken delivery of any -D birds.
Good looking bird! OBTW BuNumber is 166505, no hyphen.
The E-2, C-2, C-130 and the P-3 are the only birds left I saw or flew in during my career.
CAG 9, USS Constellation CVA-64, 1973, VA-165, to when I retired after 23 years at VP-31, P-3, 8300 flight hours later in 1993.
Wish we had the 6 blade props when I was flying in P-3. Hearing might be a bit better now. I know P-3's have never gotten them, but... :)
